I have noticed a lot of people having problems with ther oil cooler housing in their 91+ dsms and I was wondering, as a temporary fix, could i just remove the cooler and just put the filter back on until I get a filter sandwich to run an external air cooler? or would the threads be too long. I don't drive the car much just used for transportation to get to the train for now which is 3.5 miles away.

I wouldn't go disconnect it just to avoid "problems". The mixing of oil and coolant happens when people overtighten the oil filter. Unless you are having problems, i would leave it as is.
