2G 7 Bolt Oil Filter Housing Oil Cooler Sandwich Plate

Ah yes the oil cooler on the ol' 7 bolt OFH. I've been poking around and there are some good options out there. I am really tempted to get the @99gst_racer (VOLK) kit, or at the least their adapter with oil filter relocation. But I am curious based on if anyone has data on this and considering that the OFH has a thermostatic component inside already:

• What is the benefit of getting a Sandwich Plate or adapter that has its own dedicated thermostatic switch?

I like the Volk one because it would require the least amount of modification but it does not seem to have a thermostatic component. If I went the route of getting a sandwich plate so that I could have the thermostatic switch I am wondering:

• Is there a plate out there that will not just fit but be close enough to the thickness of the OEM oil cooler such that I don't need to severely chop the OEM bolt down too far (take out the OEM oil cooler and put the plate in its place).

I understand that it is meant to be stacked on top of the OEM Oil Cooler but, and this is where I prefer the Volk one, I do not want to run into issues of having the oil filter even closer to the down pipe or even have to switch to a smaller filter for better clearance.

Porting the front side or getting a Front Facing OFH seems to be the routes most take, however, I believe I like to fit square pegs and round holes too much and find a solution through a painful struggle. I believe this boundary can be pushed though because it seems 2g aftermarket parts and just 2g parts in general are on a decline and suffering a bit (or at least a bit more in some areas compared to EVOs and in some cases 1g).

I got the vibrant thermostatic ofh for my might max ofh and it's been great so far!
The thing I like about it is the extra tap ports and if your concern is chopping the filter "bolt", the housing adapter comes with a special bolt that screws into the original filter "bolt" and then has a male side that the filter screws to.

Yeah I've seen people mention the vibrant one as being solid. Do you have an idea how thick it is? I'm not so much worried about the bolt due to the oil filter but rather I would like to get a plate that can take the spot of the OEM oil cooler and retain the stock bolt with some modification

@tschuhly do you have the spacer too? It looks like if I run the spacer I might just be able to stack them together and use the oem OFH bolt without needing to mod it. With my little bit of research it looks like the bolt is 1.75 in long and the sandwich plate with spacer is about at that mark
