Water injection

Just ordered a water/alky kit from coolingmist.com. Ordered the deluxe kit. Few of my buddies have the kit and it made their car run so much smoother and could run a little more boost on pump gas. Trying to get my little 14b into low 13's before I step it up, well just sharing the excitment Any tips on installing?

I also have a 90 TSI and mounted the pump where the cruise box was on the firewall in the middle of the engine compartment. Tapped my washer fluid bottle so I didn't have to install a seperate one. I also put a light on the dash to indicate when the system kicked in so I knew what the boost pressure was at. Here's a pic of my engine bay. You can see the line with filter on the drivers side and where I'm injecting at on the throttle body elbo. Install is pretty straight forward.

Im sure it's beneficial in extracting extra HP from the car. How does it work in saving fuel? Our cars need to be rich in order to prevent knocking and in the process, waste fuel. Any feedback from guys who run this?

I haven't noticed any real fuel savings using this. If your foot is to the floor gas is cheaper than an engine. If it's knocking, richen her up!

What stage kit did you get? Stage 1? Stage 2 perhaps?

Personally I would have invested in some injectors and and SAFC or some kind of tuning device. With your setup you should be able to get into the high 12's fairly easily. Injectors and a decent tune should have gotten you there. Would have been a better investment than a cooling kit. Just my opinion though.

Afc never. I just bought the kit so I could run a bit more boost and elimate the knock. Next is a complete fuel system and DSMlink. I had link on my first 1g and it was great. I bought the deluxe kit. Thunder Valley, do they include the light in the kit or how did you go about doing that? Also where can I buy more line. Im mounting mine in my trunk. Keeping my engine bay clean and with nothing in it. Or will that slow down how fast the pump kicks in since the water/alky has to travel an extra 5-6 ft.

I bought the light from radio shack, when power is energized to the electric pump a 12v light comes on. I bought a blue one for about $3. You can get more line from any of the water injection places(got mine from coolingmist). Yes, the pump can be mounted in the trunk. The water will be cooler coming from there instead of the engine bay.

On a side note, you are playing with flammable liquids, I like to keep mine under the hood and not in the car with me. Just wanted to point that out.

Go for it! Takes a little more time to install that way, but the engine bay will look great! Have fun boostin and sprayin

I should have some feedback for this sometime next week. I'm going to finish installing my kit tonight. Unfortunately, my car will not be back on it's feet until the weekend.

I'll be running the single injector kit (injector mounted in the TB elbow due to running MAFT), 100 psi pump, and straight meth. If I don't get good results on 100% meth, I will try water and then a meth/water combo.

Currently, I have an AFR of 11.1:1 at 17 psi with zero counts of knock.
I was previously running 22 psi with zero knock, but at an AFR of 9.3:1.

My goal is to be at or near to 22 psi, 11.0 AFR, zero knock, and roughly 16-18 on my timing advance, all on pump gas. If that doesn't work, I may just ditch this kit and start adding a couple gallons of 110 to my tank upon fill-up.

As soon as the car is up and running, I'll spend an afternoon playing with the injection kit and my dsmlink, and I'll post my results.


Has anyone tried wiring the water/alky injection up through the nitrous controls on DSMlink?
