So weekend before last I went to NoVa, while sitting a a stop sign in about 8 inches of water, a bus goes by in front of me and covers me in water......No worries and i start to go and the car bucks, then dies.

Not really thinking... i crank it over and it won't start, sounds like it has jumped time. After several tries it fires slowly but is tapping and has no power. I get it back to my fathers and check timing, all is good. Pull my plugs, clean.. So i let it set and dry out. Go back up last weekend, start it up and after idling for about 5 minutes and a .2 mile drive, with the horrible tap....the radiator hose explodes. I shut it down and kicked the ####er.

The damn thing was fine until the bus soaked me...i wouldn't have thought i had sucked in enough water to do any damage, although i was riding the clutch to get out in a hurry. :dunno:

I guess the head gasket popped, only reason i can see the car not being able to really move under it's own power, and blowing the hose like that.

It's not the MAF..FYI. (Swapped it already)

Sounds like youve sucked a decent amount of water in for it to do that... I would bet if you had checked the plugs on the side of the road at the time of incident you would see water, reason you dont see anything now is that it probably burned it off as steam.

If in case you really did blow a head gasket, for the motor to knock or rap you would of had to blow a chunck of the gasket apart. Usually head gaskets do not make much sound when they are gone. Compression test will tell you much more, leak down will be even better but some dont have access to aircompressors. Check your coolant? replace the hose and run it see how it does.

Knocking/rapping sound could of also been a damaged bottom end bearing because of all the water...= too high compression

BTW dont kick the ####er show respect to your car...remeber its 13 years old...

Haha, i just put this motor together.....which is where the "swift kick" came from. I didn't have all my tools with me to do a comp/leakdown.....but my assumptions are right in-line with what you said. I was thinking maybe the water caused a valve to bend.....all the tapping was fast and in the head. I was going to try and fix it, now i am going to call my insurance and let them do their thing.
