wastegate dump tube

I have a punishment racing o2 housing with the dump tube and it seems like I can hear it open a little bit when I am only boosting 5-8 psi. I know the wastegate opens at wide open throttle but is it supposed to open when I am only boosting a little bit. It is not very lound at low boost but I can still hear it. Is this normal?

I think it is normal, i have a custom made dump tube and mine does that too. It generally opens just slightly several psi before you hit full boost.

mine makes a little noise when building boost. if you have little cracks around your wastegate it'll leak a little too.
