Was wondering how you mounted your 1g N/T TB to your 2g?

Was wondering how you mounted your 1g N/T TB to your 2g? I have the 63mm I believe throttle body and doesn't accept the throttle body elbow; just clamps on to the TB itself.

Anyway, I was wondering to whoever mounted this mother onto their 2g or possibly their 1g, what did you guys use?

I don't really want to spend 100 just for an adapter or whatnot; just something that'll extend the remaining UICP to the TB. (Going for the sleeper look if you presume. :thumb:)

Pics are very welcomed in this thread!!! :rocks:

Use the turbo TB if you want to keep the stock elbow.

Use the NT TB if you want to use aftermarket fabbed IC piping.

In your case I would just use a turbo TB. I dont see the issue here?

Nah, I saw the 63mm TB and went with that. I am just asking for those who have the 63mm TB , what they used to mount it.

I use the NT TB with the IC piping I fabbed up.

But, the way I see it - and if you think about it, you should be able to use a a 45* coupler and it should be close to what you need.

If you do stick with the NT TB, remember you need to use turbo shaft seals to make it all work.

My Evo 8 TB is the same way (but bigger :D). I would just reiterate what Eric has already said. I would just pick up something like this or this and be done with it. You may need to have a small piece of metal piping to fit in between the new coupler and whatever UICP you've currently have.

If you do need to have some custom IC piping made (whether a little or a lot), you should really have it beaded.

Ah, but a 3" to 2.5" will work with a GM 3" MAF to NT TB.

It fits just fine.

I just took apart a N/T tb today and the seals are way different than the turbo ones. The turbo ones had to be pried out of my other tb where as the n/t ones basically fell out. The n/t ones are more like o-rings where as the turbo ones are more like oil seals. Definitely change them.

Yeah, true that. They fell out and I almost lost them. ROFL

So, I am going to guess that with the plastic flimsy shaft seals are going to leak all over the place. :notgood:

I am gonna go to home depot or orchard to get some rubber couplers. Extreme PSI's=expensive. keekeetz.

There is a local place here where I live called Tri-State Bearing that got me the part number 3930 Chicago Rawhide shaft seals. They had them in a couple days for $5 each. Might be easy enough to find a bearing and seal place near you.

This is what I did back in the day on my 2g. The NT TB OD is 2.75" IIRC, so I used a piece of 2.75" coupler as a spacer to put a 3" 90 coupler on it. If you have 2.5" IC pipes you have no choice but to step it up to 2.75 or 3".

As you know, I have the Evo 8 TB. The ID is 67mm, while the OD is right at 2.75 inches. I was under the impression (under my own assumptions) that because the ID was at 67mm, I would want my entire UICP (all the way to the outlet of the intercooler (or, more precisely, the outlet of the end tank)) to have the exact same ID. I was also under the impression that one can make the UICP a bit larger than the LICP, and doing this would show (minimal) gains. Therefore, if the LICP is somewhere around 2.5 inches (and leave it be), and you have a custom-made UICP with an ID of 67mm, then you would be in the right.

Follow?

There wouldn't be anything wrong with that strategy, if you can find tubing in that size. I think most people would just run 2.5 or 3" and step it up or down to 2.75. 3" will make more sense if you have a 3" MAF, otherwise you might as well stay 2.5 IMO. The .13 difference is negligible.

Then isn't it fair to say that doing this (refering to porting the TB elbow) would also be considered negligable? I tried relaying that point in this thread, but no one wanted to agree with me. I understand that there's a 5mm difference between the 1G TB and unported 2G TB elbow, but it doesn't seem to me to be "worth my while". If in your estimation .13 inches is negligable, then would .1968 inches also be considered negligable?

Power gains would be very small, yes. But in that case it only takes a few minutes with the non-ferrous carbide bur and at least makes a nicer transition. It doesn't make the elbow itself any bigger. When it comes to finding odd sized tubing, it becomes exponentially less worth while. :) 2.5" UICPs have been proven to support a ton of power, the extra .25 inch, while certainly making for an "ideal" case, isn't going to make it worth the effort in my opinion. But there is certainly no good reason otherwise to not do it.
