Yesterday I just picked up a 95 tsi awd talon for 800 bucks, the car runs, it is driveable the guy says it has a clunk in the rear end which made him think the rear end was going out which is why he said he sold it.

The motor has a rattle around the cam gears that goes away when you give it gas, but i haven't driven it yet to hear this "clunk" in the rear end. I have gotten to really go over the car yet but i thought i would post to get some feedback.

I bought the car because I needed a deck lid and was considering replacing my axles and half shaft in my FWD with AWD parts, but after seeing the car it makes me consider fixing the awd

So my question is what does it cost to fix/replace the rear end in 2g awd. and does any one have any ideas about the rattle around the cam gears?

possibly lifter tick? who knows. I say get it checked out, fix the rear end. And re-sell for thousands more than you bought it. Then go on a cruise :thumb:

Really though, is the rear end all thats wrong with the car otherwise? 800 bucks ia one hell of a deal.

Should be a lifter, almost all 2G's that I have come across have a horrible ticking noise coming from the exhaust lifters on the first cylinder. SBR sells lifters with bigger holes in the middle of the lifter, but I am almost certain that they are the same lifter that are used in the 3G eclipses and the 1.8L 1G's. I am not for sure about that though, so don't quote me on it.

The noise in the rear end sounds like the rear diff. is missing some teeth. That is the only thing that I can think of. I agree with PieEyedPiper though, get it checked out and fixed and then sell one of the cars and dump the money in the other one. You got a hell of a deal. Better be glad I didn't see it first :D
