1G wanting to build my car for a fast daily driver need a list of parts help me?

ok so i got me a 1990 eagle talon tsi sadly its fwd. its all stock no mods at all i want a good set up for a daily driver such as bigger turbo fmic and all. what would i have to do to make my car reach 20psi safely? can anyone give me list or something to help me out? not looking for fully built just something safe and fast on the streets.

First thing you will learn is 20psi is different on different size turbos (if you don't already know this). This site has a great performance upgrade path that starts first with maintenance. Just read. Look at other members parts lists in their profile. Copy and paste. The 4g63 is extremely easy to extract power from. Its just time and money but you can buy this, this, and this and be nearly guaranteed a certain power level. Its just that simple. Make sure the motor is healthy and stop every leak first, You'll find more and more things to fix along the path to x amount of whp.

Do maintenance before upgrading with the mods or you will regret later.

Especially true of oil leaks and timing belt/component replacement. Also check crank damper pulley, the rubber trends to crack and the two pieces fly apart, probably at the worst time. Brakes, rusted brake lines, fuel lines, you'll wanna inspect and replace before the go and possibly cause more damage. Just a heads up, not saying you'll have any of those happen, but it is a 90 and you should really put it on a lift and inspect everything, tie rods, ball joints etc.

Definitely decide what your goals are gona be? If your shooting for something that's gona have great bottom end power I would stick with a smaller size turbo along the lines of a 16g or 18g. Even if u had 300whp that's still going to be plenty of fun. And any more than that IMHO is going to be the max u would want in a FWD. Say hello to torque steer and wheel spin. U could get 300hp easy on a stock 6 bolt. I would focus on a all around package cause 20lbs of boost isn't gona be any fun if u can't get the power to the ground or turn or stop

Best stay down to your limits with FWD since more power will cause more wheel slip since nothing is pushing the rear end while the front end is taking off - why the stock turbos were the 14B and Mitsu knew of the wheel slip thing with FWD vehicles - they were not designed for tearing up the roads as with the AWD units .

Agreed would look into suspension too. U can check out my build sheet I have the Kyb AGX struts with eibach springs I really like it great setup. No they aren't as adjustable as full coil overs but for 1/5th the price it will leave u with cash for sway bar upgrade In the front and adjustable tie rods for the back to get rid of the -500 degree camber haha that u get with the 1g. Cruise the classifieds too it's a gold mine for parts! But yes FWD is going to be limited on power. And honestly I wouldn't bother looking into converting it to AWD, you would be better off just buying a gsx or tsi awd at that point.

There are better combos of parts and certain size and/ or brand parts that will work best for your intentions. Like getting a huge fmic and drag spec intake manifold will hurt street performance and aren't necessary for 300hp. That being said what are realistic goals and are you like me and a lot of us on here that always end up getting used to the new power and want more. Some things like injectors are good to buy bigger than you need. Most of all get a real tuning solution, like dsm link, jackal/werewolf etc. I'm not a fan of safc, their liars , and they can't support big injectors. That and a wide band o2, all your pressure gauges, and something like j&s safe guard will really get the most out of your setup. You should be able to keep that 14b with a good parts list and tune. Remove some weight too, and roast some mustang on the highway .

I would acquire link v3 full, a 20g( more fun , manual boost controller, a good wide band, 1000+cc injectors, wal 255 or 450 fuel pump, possibly some 272 cams and BC springs and retainers, a good clutch setup and get that girl tuned. Good luck!

I hate to butt in, this is all good info for upgrading which is what I'm in the process of doing and my question might help everyone...I know everyone has their own personal preference, but which fmic would be best on this guys situation or would it even be necessary yet?

I don't think it's necessary. I have the punishment racing fmic on my 1g. Sure it probably helps drop the intake air temps, but with how much airflow that thing blocks , the rise in engine temps I feel like it's a catch 22. I mean, if your rocking a Holset on 28lbs of boost I'm sure a fmic is absolutely necessary, but on a stock turbo or 16g, eh maybe not as much

The upgrade is huge from a side mount stock intercooler to FMIC, there have been several tests done, and upgrading will drop a good 30-70 degrees on the FMIC's outlet temp! Do not paint the FMIC.
