Want stock idle. What cams to choose?

Hi!

I have searched the forums about this subject, but cannot find a good answer..

My car is a '98 Gs-t with a TD05H Small 16g turbo. I want to add some more top-end power, but I don't want my idle to change.

Using dsmlink I can change idle rpm after my need. It can idle at 800-1000rpm, but dont want it to sound tuned at idle.

Due to the amount of different cams and manufacturers, I will need some help to make my choise.

I have been thinking of BC 272's, but I do not know if they are correct for me. Planning to use the stock cam gears.


Hope anyone can help me on this subject. :)

@95lbs seat pressure.. enough? I currently have the Brian Crower springs and titanium retainers installed, I was hoping to not have to buy a different set now, because they have only about 1500kilometres on them.

The 22125-16 Manley singles is what I have. They have only 66lbs of seat pressure and 237lbs of open pressure. They are flawless so far. What is the open pressure?

If you're leary, you can shim the springs or go with fp2s instead. Shimming .01-0.02" under the manleys are fine. The BC springs are recommended for the BC288s which are VERY aggresive. I think they will be fine for the fp2X cams.

My fp cams needed no adjustment. They were deadnuts what the cam card indicated.

This is the spec from BC:
Spring Pressure:
BC1100 Seat: 1.550" @ 84 lbs / Open: 1.000" @ 235 lbs / Coil Bind: 0.935"

SBR listed them at 95lbs of seat pressure when I bought them. Have not found lbs/inch numbers, would be nice to know what the pressure will be over the edge of the cam's.. :) Know how to calculate it? A bit off-topic :rolleyes:, but I think it's good to know installing them.. :)
 
Thse BC springs should be fine. They look identical to manly springs on paper with better seat pressure. Which is important to slowing valve from bouncing off the seat. I can calculate the pressure at the nose of the cam lobe. But it involves a little calculus :) . These specs are better than manley singles. So it doesn't matter. I thought you were discussing Crower singles at first. I've seen failure with these springs.

That would have been great if you would.. :) I know the metrical system, don't have got enough knowledge about your stone, gallons, pounds per inch and whatever.. :confused: NORMALLY I am a bright guy..

I have asked Dustin at Brian Crower on theese springs and FP2X cam's:

The BC spring will have 245 lbs over the nose and 100 lbs on the seat when installed @ 1.470”.

Hello again!

I have just got the car running, last saturday!

When I ordered all the parts for my engine rebuild, somehow the FP2X's got mixed up with a set of FP2's! :cry:

Well, basically I cannot afford to sit with a new set of unused cam's and buy a new set, so now it's running with the FP2's.


My idle now is quite choppy, just like I didn't want it to be, but that's life..

Ecmlink is already in the house, so I'm able to do some changes in idle and such when I get it in..

It was just too bad I missed on my order.. :sosad: After all the trouble to find the best idleing cam's..


BUT, after I passed 100miles, I've revved it to redline twice.

It's very responsive, and doesn't feel restricted at all until it hit redline! It sounds like it will just go higher! :) And I use a S16G here..

It's not a question of less power now, I just wanted stable idle at stock rpm.. :heystupid:

You'll have to do some tuning. My fp2X cams run lean at idle. This is probably what's making the idle stumble. After dsmlink is installed, you should be able to get them to idle like mine.
Yeah, when the engine is hot it idle between 600-750rpm. The WB shows AFR's in the 16-17:1 range.

If things go my way, today will be the day I get to install 'Link. Currently trying to read up on tuning.

Can I ask for advice when I'm doing initial setup's? :pray:
