Sorry for the newb question. I have made a bit of extra money to spend on the talon and wanting to get the most for the money of things on my "future mods" list. So I am looking at a walbro 255hp and a used aeromotive FPR, and pump rewire. Its a mod I can complete fully with the budget. I plan on doing a MAFT pro and speed density set up, with wideband but it may be 6 months and the budget I have now won't allow for it yet.

Question is: Is it a bad idea to add the Wally 255HP, FPR, and rewire without any ability to tune? It is a '90 awd talon, full exhaust, test pipe. Stock otherwise. I will be adding a manual boost controller with the Fuel system stuff and plan on only about 15-16 psi. Should I do this or wait and do the MAFT pro set up first and then the fuel system after I have the ability to tune some?

Thanks for the help.

its perfectly safe to do what you have planned. you will just need to adjust the AFPR to the stock base FP of 37.5psi (i think thats the stock pressure for a 1g)

Thanks for the fast reply. I think I will plan on doing it. It would be nice to have the fuel stuff already on the car when future mods start coming.

Do I need to run any extra fuel pressure if I'm gonna run 16psi of boost?

No. The fuel pressure regulator will raise the fuel pressure 1:1. Which means for every lbs of boost you increase, it increases the fuel pressure 1 lbs as well.

This is not enrichment, just keeping the acting fuel pressure at the injector nozzle the same as what you set it at {i set every efi car at 43psi..just makes my life easier}

Remember raising your base fuel pressure is a global change. Meaning it effects all parts of the tune. Even idle.

Also dont forget to set the base fuel pressure with the vac. line disconnected :)

If you were wondering the problem people have with the 255 pump and stock regulator is the orifice is too small in the reg. Causing elevated fuel pressure {esp at idle} that you cant really do anything about. This equates to a rich condition and generally running like crap.

The aeromotive regulator has a larger orifice {also interchangeable} so it can bypass more than enough fuel to keep system pressure in check.

Good upgrade. Good choice on parts. I'd say you are moving in the right direction :)

This mod will cause no problems with driveability. It will only allow you to safely raise the boost until you reach other limiting factors. Probably injectors first air flow second :)
