My Walbro 255 is at 5 years old and 50,000 miles, no proble. I'd check for warranty, that seems short lived

no actually i was driving home today decided to do a 2nd and 3rd gear at the top of 3rd gear it cut out and made a bang so i drove a little ways to gas station filled her up then left the gas station drove a a few minutes set the cruise drove a little more then everything just shut down. Looked under the hood and the ignition fuse was blown so my dad pulled me home i replaced the fuse then tried starting it and it wouldnt then i remember i put cheap denso plugs in it so i took them out and the cylinder number for plug the porclyn around the electrode was lose and fell down over the electrode so i figured that was were the miss was coming and maybe why it was not starting so i put stock ngks back in. It still wouldnt start so me and my dad look in chilton repair book and diagnosed the pump and fuel pump relay and it ended up being the pump it has power all the way to the pump and when i turn the key on it dont kick on we took the fuel like off of the fuel filter to see if it was pumping and it wasnt.

it sounds like an issue my buddy had with his 255, but his pump didn't die, but he did keep blowing ignition fuses, once he did the rewire kit on the pump he stopped blowing fuses and the issue was solved. It could be different for every car, ### I have other friends who run a 255 non rewired and it runs fine.

Im running a 255 on stock fuel system from factory fuel lines to rail and injectors( no FPR). I had no problems yet and im going on 3 months with the set up. My buddy who i bought the car from had it for 6 months and he installed the pump himself.

well if i put a 255hp in what does it do when it overruns the fuel pressure regulator.

This is a highly debated issue as some say you MUST have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a 255 walbro while others will tell you that you don't really need one.

Over running an fpr will usually mean you'll run rich (especially at idle) as it wouldn't be able to by-pass enough pressure.

I'd recommend an adjustable fpr, you can usually pick one up for not a lot of money.

How do you know? Have you tested your fuel pressure? If your fuel pressure is higher than it should be due to the restrictive OE regulator, then you DO have a problem. Of course, you won't know until you test it though.

You will experience abnormally high fuel pressure at idle and low load situations. It will hinder the car's low end performance, as well as increase fuel consumption.

I've had the same Wally 255 pump for the past 5+ years. It's been in two different tanks, and had nothing but leaded 110 ran through it for the past 2 years. No issues here - this thing is a champ. :)

That sounds about right, I'm planning on getting one, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I was wondering what the ill effects actually were.

99 gst racer you're absolutely right. Its running rich but not crazy and it does consume a lot of fuel besides that its drivable . I will get a good regulator soon since i have some upgrades in mind but as of right now its all stock fuel system. I will check it and get it tested. thanks 4 the advice.

ok so i took my fuel pump assembly out today and the power wire that goes to my pump was pinched and was touching metal so i made a new power wire then when i went to put it all back together and tighten the power wire to the stud the stud broke off how in the world do you fix this i have pictures of what i am talking about

Walboros are infamous for failing. Especially if you run the tank level low. I reccomend a bosch motorsports, aeromotive or denso fuel pump. The advantage of walboros is they are cheap and draw low current. It sounds like you need the rest of the fuel system first, though.

well it turns out my pump is ok i just need to figure out how to replace the stud so i can hook up the power cable to the pump anyone have any ideas on doing this i have looked around and cant find anything

Back when that happened to me I just replaced the in tank pump with a hose, sold my in tank pump and got an external walboro 255. Can you point out to me in the pic what is broken? Sorry I havent looked an in tank assembly in a long time. Maybe you can weld something back in place or drill it out tap it from the backside and thread a bolt through to replace the stud.

ok i circled the place were the stud is at that i broke any ideas would be appricated thank you

You have a few choices her.

1) you can drill a shallow hole and use a really short sheet metal screw to reattach the wire to the terminal.
2) you can drill all the way through and use a screw and nut to attach the inner and outer wires to the terminal. Make sure you dont drill the hole larger than the plastic bushing that insulates the power terminal from the steel top.
3) you can purchase a replacement assembly.

PM me if you decide to replace the assembly. I can probably hook you up.:thumb:
