Vented BOV?

ok I no this has been talked about befor and im sorry to bring it up but I just get a 98 gst not to long ago and it came with a Greddy BOV, and hrad IC piping with the side mount, and its stock besides that. How do i no if it vents to the atmo? they wistle right, I have read about them and they say they are bad to have shuld i go get a 1g bov. I have also read they are ok if you have a GM MAF translator? is that correct, how would i no that i have one of them.

The bov is bolted onto the upper intercooler pipe. It has a small hose for vacuum/boost reference and it has a bigger discharge hose which should be installed and routed back into the air intake to the turbo behind the air filter and mas. If you don't have that discharge hose coming off of the bov and it is open to atmosphere, then your bov is vented.

With a stock mas in place you cannot vent without running rich and possibly stalling between shifts. Using a GM maf is one way of being able to vent the bov and yes the 1g bov is a nice upgrade.

If there is a tube going from the bov back into the intake then its resirculated. A gm maf would require a maft as well,you don't need that though. Resirculate the bov if it isn't,and do all mainenance.

yea i have been doing mait. and yes i believe their is a tube going back to the intake. but it make that wistle sound witch i like but isnt nessesary. can a recirculated BOV still wistle

Yes its normal. You have a Greddy Type-S I believe. They are known for that whistle noise.
