With these 4G63 engines, is it common for valve tapping? I had a tapping noise, so I figured it was the usual lifters. I replaced the lifters and put new Mobil 1 oil w/ K&N filter. I still seem to have a clatter the gets loud sometimes. It seems that the clatter is coming from the intake side of the engine and closer to the 1st cylinder. Do I need to just remove my head and take a look at my valves, or is there something else I'm missing?

Again, I do not want to freak you out with prediction of crankwalk. But if you have severe CW, you loose a lot of oil through the larger gap in the thrust bearing. That leaves less oil for the rest of the engine. So it is possible that your lifters at the oil entrance to the head (cylinder #4) have enough oil, but by the time that oil reaches cyl #1 it might have lost the required oil pressure.

But it doesn’t have to be CW, anything that lowers your oil pressure can have this effect. That is why I also asked you about your oil pressure.

I noticed that the pressure is low during low rpms, but I thought that was normal due to the way the oil pump works in these DSM's. I'll check it again. What is a safe pressure? My gauge shows about 10-20 during idle, driving around 35-40 and WOT is 80 or higher. Is 35 too low when cruising?
