Valve keeper

Hey guys, so I got my head rebuilt and shaved but the builder has let me know that I have a missing valve keeper/lock whatever the proper term is...anyways, just wondering how much risk would I be taking to run my car without it, or how much work is required to put one in. And where can I purchase one?? Il be running This motor for another summer.

the one with the missing heaper WILL DROP A VALVE!

SBI has them, so any machine shop can get you one for about $3.00

or hit the pick and pull and rob one off a head...

if you do not have the proper tool for installing the keeper it is a PITA, and if you have aftermarket springs its even worse

serch valve spring tool and you will see both the tool and how big a PITA

If you go to the VFAQ site, it shows you how to replace valve stem seals which'll also show you the keepers.

i really dont get it... why would this guy rebuild my head and not take care of that? am i thinking of something else??? the part he showed me has 2 ( U ) shaped pieces of metal that sits on top of the valve... why the crap would he just tell me i am missing one and not make a big deal out of it? are you guys sure it will drop a valve for sure???

Dude... I am an engine machinist, look at what I post, It is mainly about cylinder head work.

yes it will drop. and in all likly hood poke a hole in the piston and maybe even take out the block

the SBI part number for you valve lock is 121-1031

get a lock .. new or used and have it installed
