Hi,
I just finished an engine build and when I went to do the timing belt it seems I have valve interference when I go to turn the motor over by hand. I have done the timing belt many times before and everything seems correct. I have checked the timing plate to make sure I do not have it on backwards. Dowel pins are up. One thing I did do was run the oil pump with a drill before installing the belt. Could I have pumped the lifters up too much? Do they need bled down? The car is a 91 talon a 6 bolt of course. Ebay pistons and a fresh head that looks like it has been decked... not sure how much.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks

The lifters could have inflated due to the priming. You can check to see if you can still depress them with your finger by removing the valve cover and pressing on the rocker arm directly above the HLA (lifter).

Did you check the piston to valve clearance during your build?

I believe only the intake cam has the slot for the cam sensor so the cams are not backwards. I did not check piston to valve clearance during the build. Weird thing is the cam pulleys have white marks on them from someone that worked on the car before me and they are on the outside edges of the pulleys... not inside where u set the timing.

Bleeding the lifters solved the problem. I am not sure if the head was already that way before I primed the pump or not. I even let the engine sit for a week and they did not bleed down on their own. After bleeding them down manually all was fine.
