I will be upgrading my valve springs and getting 1mm oversized valves. Are new valve guides needed?
I will be putting Comp 1012 cams in if that makes a difference.

If none are damaged then it is absolutely unneccesary for even huge power/revs. Although I do not recommend it, I have been running for thousands of miles on 4 "mildly" cracked stock guides. Revving to 8500 frequently. If you have a cracked guide and you have a shop around then definately get it done. You must get it done if the crack is wide enough, or if it is all the way around the guide, etc. It's better to get it done. I have that little tug in the back of my mind everytime I rev her up, "I wonder if a valve guide is going to let loose?"

Check the valve guides for play and see that they have. Just put the valve in the guide, til it is barely off the seat and wiggle it back and forth. You shouldn't hardly be able to move it at all. If you can then you should replace them. Since you have it off I would do it anyways if they are kinda loose. If not then I wouldn't replace them. With having a 16 years old car though I'm betting they are kinda loose.

use a small hole guage and 0-1" micrometer to see what the inner dimensions are. Check top, bottom, and middle. That also checks for funky wear like you would do in a cylinder. It should be only .002" larger then the valve stem and the valve should fit nicely.
