i picked up a jdm engine a while ago--- thought she was good to go until i found out oil was leaking past the head gasket-- :banghead:

pulled the head, and im ready to install the new parts-- on extremepsi they ask which tensioner im going to need. 90-92 or 92-94

then engine has a 13g on it... assuming the engine is from a 1g and is a 7bolt... im guessing i need the parts for the 92-94 correct? dont want to order the wrong parts... thanx!!

I don't know if you have your engine out of the engine bay or not but you can count the numbers of bolts on the crank where the clutch and fly wheel going to meet. If you can't do that you going have to look on the other side of the engine where the harmonic damper is and look on that side of the oil pan if it dips in its a 7 bolt if its pointing out its a 6 bolt

Since the head is off, measure the diameter of one of the head bolts (shank portion). If they measure 12mm, you have a 6-bolt (90-early 92); if they measure 11mm it is a 7-bolt (later 92-94).

In the US the 13g only came on automatic 1Gs (with regards to DSMs) but was never an indicator of a 6-bolt or 7-bolt engine.

Edit: Do you one better than that, for stock head bolts, if you had to use an allen key (hex) tool to remove them, it is a 6-bolt. If you had to use a 12-point socket, it is a 7-bolt.
