underhood shift kit bushing ?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

mine is a 1G but I have the base shifter bushings, underhood bushings, Synchromesh and a short throw shifter. Those together made a big difference, I can actually feel it go into gear now.

If you give me a couple days I can comment on it. I've got the stock shifter with the symborski base mounts. I have the shifter bearings ready to go in. The mods were talking about getting some of the faqs on-site so I think I'll document this procedure and post my impressions in there once I get it together.

They're more then worth the money in my opinion. I had just the Symborski shifter kit on one of my DSMs and it helped out, but I later put the underhood bushings in too and it made it considerably better. On another one of my DSMs I just got the underhood bushings and put them in and it was shifting well enough that I never even bothered getting the Symborski shift kit.

I 2 have the B&M short throw, shifter plate bushings and underhood bushings. I drove for a while before I found out about the underhood bushings and I thought my shifter was pretty direct but after adding the underhood bushings it eliminated any extra play that was left. Another DSMer in my area always wants to sit in my car and feel my shifter compared to his and when I feel the stock shifter I can't imagine he can ever find the right gear because it's soooooo sloppy. Spend the 8 bucks :thumb: .

I would suggest going with the rollerblade bearings personally. I have the brass bushings in one car and rollerblade bearings in the other. The one with the brass bushings seems to stick slightly sometimes where as the one I have the rollerblade bearings in is always really smooth.

The rollerblade bearings are what almost all of the eBay kits will use. They're also quite a bit cheaper then the brass bushings are.

I might try switching mine out to the rollerblade bearings since I've had the speedsource bushings in for a while to see if it makes any difference for me. I also have a B&M(50% throw reduction) and the symborski kit.

side note: make sure everything is adjusted properly as well, cables and clutch pedal then you will see the biggest difference.

Thanxs for the remarks, i already have the e.s. shifter bushing and getting band&m or the look alike for my birthday.

I just got the MachV kit in and boy did I feel a difference. There's no slop anymore right on the edge of the transmission going into gear. It feels a lot more direct, and the feeling of going into 2nd and 4th have improved dramatically. I wasn't expecting much of an imporovement over the symborski shifter base kit but I was amazed.

Reading this post i have decided to give them a try. I do also have the Symborski shifter kit . I did a quick search and you can get them from Speed Source for 28 bucks BUT Speed Source also has 2 packs (95+) on ebay for buy it now 9.99 then 3.00 shipping. Oh wait....make that one left ROFL ....

Sorry about reviving this old thread, but I'm not sure what I'm going to need. How many bearings and washers will I need?

did anyone try welding the two bearings together, because every time I put a couple of tack welds on the bearings the bearings lock up and don't spin anymore. It is driving me nuts going through so many bearings. I have the heat setting on my welder really low too.
