U joint

i have a 90 tsi awd and i noticed a slight clicking and i put my car up in autos class and i noticed some play in the u joint in the intermediate (middle) shaft. so when i hold the rear shaft i can turn the middle one and it will turn a little without forcing the other shafts to turn. i wa wodnering should i get a new shaft or just a u joint? also how difficult is it the repalce the u joint? let me know thanks
