Heh, I feel like an idiot typing up this thread, but the ricer in me just has to know..

My Greddy Type-S has never had the typical "3 second long whistle tune" like everyone elses. It seems to be closer in sound to a HKS SSQV. It's not really a problem, but it does bug me a bit :coy:

Also, it will not cause any fluttering no matter how hard/soft it's set. I should be grateful, but I'm just confused on why mine is so different.

Is it possible my BOV is worn out and leaking? I bought it used and it has always acted this way.

Your BOV may have had the "single-spring mod" performed on it - the Greddy Type S BOV contains two springs: one heavier-gauge spring and one lighter-gauge spring. When the "single-spring mod" is performed, the lighter-gauge spring is removed and only the heavier-gauge spring remains in the BOV. I performed this mod on my own BOV because I was getting compressor surge (flutter) even with the BOV adjusted to fully-soft. After performing this mod, my compressor surge (flutter) is gone. However, I also noticed that my BOV was not whistling as loudly as it did before the mod.

Another possibility is that the BOV spring(s) are worn which could also cause some boost leak.

Hope this helps!:)

I think the flutter is based on the amount of boost you are running. Correct me if im wrong.
Not sure about the Type S but my friend has the 1g and his flutters because its over "crushed" and doesn't vent all the air at once.

I have the HKS Stage 2 race bov and my flutters.... I have the boost set at 8psi currently tho because i have a really bad boost leak so. Is the fluttering bad? Should I adjust mine? And which way to i turn the screw to correct it?

I actually ran into this problem my self, when i bought my Type S it sounded like my buddys dsm, then i painted my valve cover and put the valve cover back on and to get it to sound normal i had to loosen the spring on the Type S then it sounded normal. Performance wasn't hurt i don't know why i had to loosen it up. . .

A flutter sound indicates compressor surge which will stress your turbo. This is due to the BOV not opening. To correct this, adjust your BOV to a "softer" setting so that it opens more readily. On the Greddy Type S BOV, you would turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise - I'm not sure which way you turn the adjustment screw on the HKS Stage 2 for a softer setting. Keep adjusting the BOV softer until you hear the nice "whoosh" sound after suddenly letting off the gas pedal while building boost, indicating that your BOV is opening.

well at idle if im sitting still and rev it up and build close to full boost it sounds normal, but if im driving no matter what when the bov goes off it flutters....

That is strange. If you adjust your BOV to its softest setting, do you still hear flutter?

I have had my boost at 10 psi and have been told that flutter is normal at around 5 psi because there is not enough pressure to open the valve fully. If you soften too much you will lose performance, however should lose the flutter.

ok i will try to loosen it up some when i fix my boost leaks, i dont wanna turn the boost up to stock level or drive it much really untill i fix it. my parts ###### will be here tomorow.

I first bought one because i liked the nice sound they give. Well once i had it on and drove it i heard a flutter. I couldn't get mine to not flutter. I was like thats kindof tight not what i really wanted but o well. Well....thats not what my turbo was sayin. See the reason it was fluttering was because it wasn't opening fully! This cause your turbo to scream in pain (not literally of course). I suggest the SSM (single spring mod). Once i did this easy process to my BOV, everything was good. I tightened it up after the mod to half way.
