I recently installed a greddy type s in my car. at lower boost levels it lets off MORE of a sound than at Higher boost levels. Between about 3k and 4k its louder than WOT. At WOT i get a CHEE short duration sound. Is this normal? It also doesnt make that whistle noise, its more of a CHEE

do you here any fluttering? if so then you need to adjust...otherwise you should here a little something but it wont be as loud as you were expecting untill you get some hard piping to bounce that noise around a little better

Yea right after i got some responses i went out and adjusted it. I had alot of fluttering, loosened her up n shes whistlin like a big 18 wheeler LOL. Thanks for the responses

let me guess its venting too?
BOVs are for one purpose, becuase hte stock one leaks too soon too much. Dont worry about what it sounds like, only that it works

No , i really dont care how it sounds, i wanted to know if it was performing properly thats why i was asking if it sounded alright. No its not venting..Learned that lesson already. as for bub rubb LOL , WOOO WOOOOO..thats the funniest video ever!

Your cars hot!

I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything but can anybody define what "fluttering" means? My bov lets of a sound at lower rpms that sounds exactly like a squirrel. In matter of fact, my car has been getting a lot of attention from the local squirrels laterly. Is that sound considered fluttering?

ROFL Never heard it discribed like that before, but yes, that's fluttering. Loosen up the adjustment screw. It should be set full soft for these cars. Harder settings are for engines that make lots of vacuum.

Have some one drive it. My HKS SS sounds like a normal BOV while driving. But when some one else drives it, is makes it's listen whistle-y sound perfectly audible from outside the car. You're just hearng the excess air hit the hood and it muffles the sound. It's probably fine. Do set it softer as MYBEATGSX mentioned, that should help.

Yea its fluttering, make sure you dont over loosen the adjustment screw though, it can blow off under high pressure if its too loose.

Just to clear up what that flutter sound is and why you DONT want to hear it...that sound is called compressor surge, its all the air that should have been vented coming back down to your turbo slamming into your fins, causes death to turbos...if you hear that noise adjust your BOV fast. There was a post a while back where a guy disconnected his vaccum hose from his greddy type-s because he thought the flutter sound was cooler than the blow off noise...WTF WTF

All my hoses are connected. I tried adjusting it a couple of different ways (5 ways to be exact) from soft-hard but I keep hearing the fluttering. Why???

How many turns soft should you make it, because I turned mine about 3/4 from where it was and I'm still getting absolutely no sound from my BOV. Mind you its the RS, if that matters.

Has anyone ever taken one of the springs out of there Type S? My friend has a SR20 240SX and I guess they do that to them when they recirculate the BOV. The logic behind it is that because you have a vaccum line connected to the BOV it does not take much spring tension to keep it shut. And with the lower tension you get better response out of the valve.

If you are still getting the fluttering sound then your spring is still set too hard. Turn the screw further in the "soft" direction, start at an extreme point, you can rev your engine up while your in the bay via the throttle body and keep turning the screw down until you have a good mix of no flutter and a nice greddy wistle ping.

I have never heard of anybody removing the spring in a greddy type-s, sounds like a bad idea to me. But, like i said i have no idea on that one.

If you have adjusted your bov all the way to soft and all your hoses are all connected properly, then you have another issue. Two that i can think of right away..

1. You are not getting vaccum in the hose running to the bov nipple to open the the bov..

2. BOV might be defective

This is a greddy type-s right??

I have removed the spring from my greddy type s, both the large one and the small one because I was bored one day. When I did this, the bov didn't have enough spring pressure to keep it closed and it was like a big boost leak. I advise not removing either spring.

Please check out the following link for information on the "single-spring mod": http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPath=1&tech_id=7. The Greddy Type S contains two springs: a lighter spring and a heavier spring. When performing this mod, you only remove the lighter spring - the heavier spring remains installed since it is needed to keep the valve closed when boosting. Hope this helps.:thumb:

Let me rephrase myself a little bit. One day when I was bored, I removed just the small spring, put it back together, then after I tried that, I took it back apart, put the small spring in and took the large one out. Both yielded unwanted results, so I put it back together with both springs, the way it was intended to be used.

Sorry if it sounded like I took out both springs. I'm not that retarded. ROFL

I made a topic about this last year. My Type-RS fluttered no matter what it was set to or how the vacuum lines were run. Turned out to be defective. The new one is set full soft (as I keep saying they all should be) and opens perfectly anytime.
