I'm having some issues with my car. I haven't been driving it as im waiting to get my license back, which should be this week. I went to move the car today and I was driving and the car just started revving like hell. I had my foot off the gas and it was continuously revving up. It hit 7k and I turned it off quick. I took the battery terminal off, turned it back on and drove it for about 50 foot and it started doing it again.

If I'm in gear driving it, I can take my foot off the gas and it stays where its at. If I take it out of gear it just continues to rev high. I have no clue what it is. It wasn't doing this before.

It is 98 GS-T. Mostly stock, 14b, supposedly a "stage 2 TRE transmission," which I really think this was just a ploy to get me to buy the car, FMIC, a boost controller, and a vibrant 3" from the turbo back. I don't know if any of that has anything to do with it.

I've been searching and am going to check on the throttle body. The cable doesn't seem too tight and when it starts doing this, if I tap the gas, it stops, but starts again if I keep driving. Check engine light also came on, I need to try to get the car to autozone to have it read.

Also, I've been searching but have not found what I was looking for perhaps I overlooked it, but what are the bolt sizes for the rear transmission/motor mount?

Thanks guys.

start unplugging sensors on the throttle body. more than likely its the throttle position sensor. im 90% sure about that. just unplug it while the car is running if it stays running its bad. if the car dies its good. do this with all the sensors on the throttle body until you find out which one it is

let me rephrase this.. if the car starts running worse or dies. might check for a vacuum leak as well

Just unplugging sensors won't necessarily cause the car to die, and may not even point to the actual problem. You should test the TPS for proper voltage output, make sure the idle switch is closing properly, and check the resistance across the coils of the ISC.

I agree that this does sound like a bad TPS signal (or possibly something in the ECU?) based on the symptoms, although I don't think that it could cause it to rev that high for any length of time. You have to get a decent amount of air into the motor from somewhere to keep it running at high RPMs.

Does the car still have cruise control?

OP - Please fill out your vehicle profile so we can better help you with future issues.

I'll fill out the profile now. It's weird how it started all of a sudden doing this. I've never had a problem with it before. I really hope that it is not the ECU. I'm going to do my best to get the code read tomorrow to find out what code it is throwing.

Also on a side note, can anyone point me in the right direction for those bolt sizes? I've been searching around.

Anyone?

Hrmm

It just randomly started doing it. I don't know. It's weird. I Didn't drive the car for a while, then tried to drive it and it did this. The car does still have cruise.
