I am perplexed. My son's 97 Eagle Talon has a problem with the turn signals. When the key is on, the left turn signal flashes rapidly with the turn signal switch in neutral/park, when you hit the hazard flashers it slows down and both sides flash. If I pull the turn signal fuse it quits. With the turn signal switch plugged in, the blamed thing exhibits this behavior, with the switch unplugged, the problem is gone, but of course there are no headlights or turn signals without the switch. Any ideas other than a new switch (which I will have tomorrow 5/17/07.)?
Thanks, Chip.

Have you checked the bulbs? They have 2 "discharge"capabilities. The parking light level and the brighter turn signal level. If the brighter one goes out then they will blink fast.

Does it do it on both left and right or just one side?

Just the driver side no matter what position the switch is in left, right or center. If I turn the hazard flashers on, all the lights flash at a slower rate.

Matt, I think you misunderstand his question.

If the problem goes away with the switch disconnected, it is probably as you suspected, a bad switch. Likely a short, worn indents, or weak spring.

Blinking rapidly is usually as Matt suggests. Replace the switch, then check for bad bulbs.

When you say neutral/park do you mean the level is in the middle? If this is the case no bulb should be flashing regardless of it going fast or not. If its going fast in this position then it is probably the signal switch that connects to the level or possibly a combination of that an a bad bulb. GL

Yes, I do mean the lever in the middle position. Supposedly there was no problem with it when his girlfriends brother parked the car other than a blown head gasket and missing front sheetmetal. We are finding various little irritations on the car as we get it to the point of driveable. I will post if the switch does the trick. We already replaced all the bulbs and double checked them and the sockets for continuity.
Thanks for all you guys help, Chip.

It was the switch, the pin that moves the "cam"inside the switch had broken off the lever. We ordered a new switch from the aprts store and it came in wrong twice, so my son took the switch apart and drilled the lever and installed a roll pin. It works fine now.
Thanks for all your replies, Chip.
