Hey everyone,

Few questions my turbo is whistling at about 3,000 rpms, I know thats not good. Friend also told me that the turbo was a 16g, not sure if its evo III or what but he googled the code that was on the turbo and it came up as an evo III. Does anyone buy 16g evo III blown turbos, if so how much?

Also I think I am going to go to JNZ Tuning this wk to get a new 16g evo III for $589 brand new, is that a good price?

I just went outside to check the turbo, it has the code "TD05H" on the turbo. Which turbo is this?

It can be a 16g 14b etc etc. the TDO5H designation can be a housing for a ton of different turbos.

its either a small 16g or 14b. If the inducer wheel has double blades its a 16g if it has individual blades its a 14b. The serial number is the best way to tell.

Jusmx141 rebuilds the turbos and sells remans cheaper than JNZtuning and they are authentic MHI. $589.00 is pricey for the evoIII they can be found much cheaper

Before starting to look for a new turbo, check for shaft play. If it's just a whistling sound, it could be just a big boost leak. Hard to tell since it is coming on once the turbo is spooling up.

Boost leak = less money

Shaft play = FUBAR

It's a turbo car, why would it not whistle? Yeah the whistle will be more noticeable with a boost leak though.

I would assume that everyone has heard a diesel truck at some point in their life and isn't so dense to not know what a normal spooling sound is...at least I hope. I'm just trying to make sure someone new to the game doesn't go out and buy something they don't really need since they didn't know about certain things. There is a steep learning curve with DSMs.

+1 yes sir. I failed to realize he might be a super noob :) no offense... my small 16g with the hardpiping and intake sounds like a freightliner when it spools. I am growing rather fond of the little beast

Well my buddy who owns a shop and has a 2g said that my turbo is whistling and it's called the whistling of death or something? I know turbos whine/whistle a little, but I don't think it's supposed to be whistling that loud.

Also yes I am a complete noob to the dsm world, but I am learning faster since my car almost had every problem in the history of a dsm =)

I am not sure how to determine why it's whistling so loudly. It doesnt have the stock airbox + I got an open dump.
