Well ive finally decided to keep my lovely 1g eclipse just because ive had to do so much work on it.. Im about to have the transmission rebuilt but before i do... Does anyone know if i can bolt up a turbo transmission on a 4g63 engine if its non turbo? If so, i need to replace the clutch with a turbo one? i mean ive done some research and from what i see... its the same exact layout almost, just diff gear ratios. Please help me out a little, i dont wanna go buy a used turbo tranny for rebuild if its not gunna work! (btw, im gunna be turbo charging this car very soon.. almost have all the parts :thumb: ) Just need to know if theres a major difference between the trannys. I dont think there would be.. its the same engine.. but you never know.. haha id appriciate any help :dsm:

OK I have both a N/T tranny and a Turbo tranny I sit them side by side and they bolt have same bolt pattern, The Turbo flywheel is bigger so the bell housing has to be bigger. so yes you would have to get a Turbo flywheel and clutch and from what I have heard/read the axles are the same. If I'm wrong on anything please correct me.

from what i was told the n/t trans is better for 0-60, so if your doing a turbo on a n/t it would be fine to keep the n/t transmission, just upgrade it a little bit, like i a better clutch(act/centerforce) and a double second synchro, i did both to mine and it shifts liek a champ and no grinds/noises at all....

Not sure who told you that but they're wrong.

1. The turbo trans is actually easier to drive and hooks up better since it's multiplying the torque slightly less. This means less wheelspin or at least wheelspin that's easier to modulate. I'm sure that on a 1g nt that the fwd turbo tranny would be slower since the tranny and the clutch add a little weight, but then again the car doesn't make enough power to break the tires loose in second anyways. Even then we're talking 8-9 seconds to 60mph, so the word fast shouldn't be used when discussing fwd nt 0-60 times.

2. The nt transmission is too weak to handle the nt/turbo swap. I've personally destroyed 3rd gear 3 separate times, not once from missing a shift. They've all failed due to sheared teeth. My act clutch I had in the nt transmission was flawless, and I still have it, but the tranny's could never hold up along with it. I killed all 3 of the transmissions on the 14b too so it's not like I was pushing 500whp through them.

sorry guys my mistake... i guess it would be smart to do the swap, im just mad i redid my tranny for no reason now cause the dumb*ss guy from the trans shop told me id be fine with this trans w/my turbo swap...thanks *mavisky*

haha amazing. i thought the turbo tranny would be better because obviously it has to be stronger due to the fact of the increased HP the turbo creates.. but i wasnt sure. That helps me out a bunch.. now only where to get a turbo tranny i was going to go to the junkyard but OMG.. its like freezin so scratch that idea.. haha any suggestions?
