I have a automatic 1991 eclipse gsx and it seems like it takes way to long for full boost. I have a new 16g turbo that came with the car on stock boost, could this be the problem? I only want to turn up my boost to 15psi, if I got a smaller turbo shouldn't it spool faster with just 15 psi?

My transmission also won't shift into LOW gear, it goes into everything else but low. When in drive it cycles through all the gears like it should, it just won't go into low and stay there.

yes, the slow spool is the 16g, my buddy has a 14b and i have an evo 3. both are on 15 psi. he spools faster. but i spool harder:tease:. now the a/t problem, i have no clue. sorry buddy.:aha:

At what rpm do you see full boost? it should be anywhere from 3000-3600 on an e316g

Your saying drive goes through all gears but when u "manually" put it in first it doesn't stay there? If that was the case i would say its something electrical because it works in one case and not the other.

DSMcoder,

I just wanted to chime in to find out more about the car. Your question is a little vague, which will not get you the best answers. I remember when I needed answers how helpful this forum was, so I am trying to return the favor!

1. If you've had the car for a while, have you noticed that the car's boosting has gotten slower over time, or was this always an issue? It shounded to me that you just got the car, but I cannot be sure from your post. On a stock setup, the 16G should be a VERY quick spoolup. I was seeing 17psi at about 3,500 to 3,700 RPMs in third gear...If the boost issues came out of no where, or if you just got the car, please look at #2. If this occured over time, you need to consider some things, but can cross taht get to that bridge

2. If your profile is up to date, it looks like the car is basically stock, and that exhaust should not slow down the spool of a 16g...it should speed it up. This leads me to the next question. Have you performed a boost leak test? A boost leak can cause slow spool, among other things. If left untreated, they can cause havoc on the performance of a turbo charged vehicle. The other half of that is getting a boost gauge. These two items can help you insure that your car's turbo system is functioning correctly.

3. Not sure about the trans... Question about that though: Can you move the shifter to the lowest gear yourself? If you do, what happens? IS it stuck in first? Does it stay in second even when you move the shifter to first? Need more info on that one.

Ill try to get back to this post when you update it.

PMme if you need anything else.

Auto Turbos have 390cc injectors to run with a small 13b turbo.

If not, you could be experiencing this boost problem with putting that larger turbo in without matching the more larger injectors to go with it...as with the 450cc units that we stock manual turbos run.

If you go with larger injectors, you'll need an engine management device to bring the two together to make it all work since the ECU is programmed to be used with the 390 injectors...

You might have tranny problems if it can't stay in L, or it does work fine but the sensor in the tranny wants to shift out of L at a certain RPM, then you'd need a shift kit to control that..

My car is basically stock, I have 450 cc injectors and I got the car a couple months ago. I'm not sure when I get full boost, I think its high 3000s maybe 4000s. I just want faster spool like stock boost level at 2800rpm or 2900rpm. Would that be possible with a smaller turbo?

With my transmission all the gears work fine in drive and 2nd. When I try to put it in low it goes in but won't lock in so as soon as I let go it pops into 2nd.

I forgot to add one thing, My car starts in the morning between 30 and 40 degrees on the first crank, but later on in the day it might take 4 or 5 cranks. What could cause this?
