Ok this is not for a DSM. The turbo will be going on a 1.6 liter 20 valve 4AGE blacktop.
I am currently running 11:1 compression so I don't plan on running a lot of boost for a while. I will probably rebuild the motor down the road with beefier pistons but I do plan on keeping the compression high. Never see myself going lower than 10:1.
Quick spool is also pretty important to me.
I have a guy building me a turbo right now. I started out just looking for a rebuilt 14b. He has been trying to talk me into going with a 14b hotside and evo 10 compressor. I am concerned it will add lag without gaining me much at the rates I plan to flow. I do intend at some point to see how much I can get out of this motor but again how much boost can you really run at 10-11:1?
So what are peoples thoughts?

This brings me to my second question. I was really hoping to find a 6cm stainless turbine housing. I found bulleseye but it looks like they only made a 7cm and after some research it sounds like that's not even available now. Does anyone know of stainless housing options?
Plan b. If I ditched the idea of going stainless the only other housings I found were ebay and FP. FP seems only to have a 7cm and ebay went from 7cm and up. Are there any 6cm options other than OEM?

I am assuming I would see a significant increase in lag if I jumped up to a 7 cm hotside would I not?

From my understanding the 7 cm flows better than the 6. Bigger hole means easier to push the air. Correct me if im wrong guys .

Haha yeah I get that much but I want to know how much it will effect spool.
It seems to me I wouldn't be pushing the limits of the 14b and I think a 16G would be barely waking up, if I'm not pushing the turbo that hard is there any gain, any loss and do they gains outweigh the losses?

I would go with a 14b, and don't bother with stainless. It's not necessary.

95% of my build isn't necessary. :p

How would the 7cm housing do on the 14b?

I don't know of a stainless turbine housing available, and I don't know of a non-OE style 6cm housing either.

And before you consider the ebay/China 7cm housing: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...1680-china-ebay-7cm-td05-turbine-housing.html

Thanks. I wasn't terribly seriously considering the ebay housing but it was one of the few options I found. The FP housing is a little on the steep side but I would probably do it if it's my best option.

I found the TMM1 and TMM2 housings on DTMs website and for what seems like a surprisingly good price but it seems to me they just must not have updated the page or something. I did email them today so I'll see what they say.
DTM Parts - Turbine Housings

So I guess my biggest questions now are what differences would I notice between the 6 and 7 cm housings on the 14b.
Are there any housing options I haven't found yet?

I'm not familiar with the DTM housings at all, but I don't think those are td05 housings.

The only other td05 housing that I know of is the T3 10cm housing. Probably not high up on your list though if you're looking for quick spool times.

There's nothing wrong with the stock 6cm housing IMO. Aside from the lack of bling, it sounds like it's exactly what you want/need.

Yeah other than finding a healthy one. I haven't priced one out new but I'm assuming they aren't cheap. I was hoping for stainless since it sits right on top of the engine but I can ceramic coat it. Still kinda curious how something like the FP 7cm will perform compared to the stock 6cm.

Evo X compressor = roughly 40 lb/min peak. It's built the same as an Evo III compressor...thin blades, small hub- very lightweight. It's going to spool even quicker than an Evo III 16G, so this turbo in a 6cm housing would be a HORRIBLE idea unless you like a ton of compressor surge.

For the record- Bullseye turbine housings are a centered-volute .55 a/r...somewhere around 8cm2. They're built for turbine flow, not necessarily quicker spool. If you do happen to find one of these housings, it's going to be used....as you've already stated, they have been discontinued. The stainless is not going to do anything for you that a good ceramic coating could not.

Again, for the the record- FP doesn't cast their own 7cm housings for Mitsu turbos. The housing you're seeing on their site is a 7cm MHI Evo III turbine housing.

Thanks.
How about a 7cm housing on a 14b though?

Thanks guys. I'll start with the 14b and see how I like it. I have a T25 on it right now but still haven't hooked up the wastegate. Once I finish my water to air intercooler I'll be ready for boost but I know this turbo is on it's way out.
