Please help me!!
So the car has been running good but some issues have been developing. I can hear a really bad tick in my engine (lifter tick?). When the car is cold it is worse but even when it is warmed up I can hear it some. Also, sometimes when I floor the gas the car goes nowhere. The turbo is claiming it's at full boost. This happened the other day on the freeway: I was going 66 MPH and floored the gas in 5th for 10 seconds or so, it got up to full boost pretty quick but the car didn't even hit 70. Sometimes when I let off the gas and then go back on the car accelerates like normal. It feels like I am accelerating but when the boost builds above about 60% the car feels like it has no pull at all. It happens in lower gears too sometimes. Also sometimes when I'm pulling in 2nd (for example, seems to be 2nd-4th) if I have the car at 70% throttle the turbo will trip out. It will boost really jerky if the RPM's are between 2,000 and 4,000 (I never stomp on it below 2k but I am sure it would be weird there too). If I put the pedal to the metal the turbo starts boosting nice and smooth. This crazy boosting is more liable to happen when the engine is not fully warmed up but it will happen at lower RPM's pretty consistently no matter the engine temp. And the turbo sounds different under boost. It sounds like really strong winds. Sort of like when strong winds hit a flag and make it flap around. Just really 'airy' sounding. Maybe boost leak? I don't know. It sounds fine when it blows off. I am sure that my engine/exhaust mani aren't leaking. It could be the tubing to and from the turbo or the turbo is just going bad (it has 200,000 miles on it).
All my wires and plugs are fine. I also haven't seen or smelt any smoke which I hear happens with boost leak. So maybe a bad turbo.. I read that the tick could be related to the whole "not accelerating under full boost" issues I described that's why I made this all 1 thread. But the odd sound and jerky boost from the turbo makes me think maybe the turbo is the only culprit here. I know our engines love to tick and never really thought that was a big issue. Thanks and sorry for the length, I wanted to give as much info as possible.
