I just ordered one of these lines and was wondering if I need a Garrett Dual Ball Bearing Oil Restrictor Fitting #18920. I was reading that the pressure right off the oil filter housing is to much pressure. Is this true, and will I need that oil restrictor.

I have mine off the head with an in-line filter and some have only seen 30-40psi off the head and others have seen up to 70psi from the oil filter housing.

Do a quick search, Im positive there are tons of threads on oil feed locations for journal bearing turbos and BB/DBB turbos that will answer your questions. I believe FP has a write-up on there website about this.....dont quote me, I read it on a thread in here earlier.

The need for a restrictor depends on the turbo you are using. I would say it's not necessary for anything non-ball bearing. However, there is a particular turbo guru around here who swears by restrictors even for journal bearing turbos.

After searching and reading for a while, I have come to the conclusion that you need to run an oil restrictor on the oil feed line if you use the oil filter housing to supply oil to the turbo. This is especially true if you have done the balancer shaft delete.

Now my question, my 14b turbo took a dump and quit working about 600 miles after doing the BS delete. Now the turbo was still supplied with oil from the head after the BS delete. Should I have used the oil restrictor to feed oil to the turbo from the head.

Im going to feed my new turbo 14b from the OFH, but use this restrictor. I like the idea of clean oil feeding the turbo.

Feed it from the head, how the 14B was designed. The 1G stock metal oil feed line from the head to the turbo has a restrictor in the 10mm banjo fitting that connects to the head....so not only is the 14B fed from the head stock, it's also restricted.

What gives you the impression that by not feeding the turbo from the filter housing that the oil is dirty?
