turbo issues

Ok so i have a 1g eclipse gs with the stock turbo on it. I bought the car cheap as a fixer upper so to speak and right now i am having trouble building boost. It seems like when i first drive the car it will hold a little boost no more than 5psi which seems low to me but maybe it isnt. But anyways after a few minutes the car has trouble getting over 0psi, its seems like i must have a boost leak but is it possible that the turbo could just be shot?

maybe do a boost leak check for shaft play.

I could be but if it was shot you would know. when mine blew it shot oil everywhwre and I could hear my compressor wheel hitting the casing cause they warped. Is do the compression test before anything.

Are you using an actual aftermarket boost gauge or just going by the factory "theoretical" boost gauge in the gauge cluster?

+1 on the boost leak test. Does it whine or howl? To me, sounds pretty shot. had the exact same thing go on when the 12a went out on my starion.
