Turbo issues

Hey guys, about a week ago I noticed my turbo making a slight 'whirling' sound when it came on boost. Its been getting progressively worse over the last few days and I would like to know if it needs to be replaced. Thanks.

First off, pop the filter off and check for shaft play. Be a good starting place.

Also do a boost leak test.

Felt some side to side play but I couldent fit enough of my hand in to really check, and there was also oil in the filter intake

The oil is from your valve cover vent hose being plumbed into your air filter pipe, a lil shaft play is normal, it shouldn't rub in the housing tho. Yes, indeed do a boost leak test, you'll be surprised at what you may find for such little effort put forth to check. Boost leak test is the best when in doubt

There shouldn't be any side-side (or I should say in-out) movement, only up-down. I'm assuming your still on the stock T25 which is notorious for randomly failing thrust components.

That's the normal amount I earlier mentioned. Yes a leak can be heard (think the boosted air the turbo is making and trying to cram into your engine is escaping out at a leak point somewhere) every lil boost leak matters, the worst are the ones on the other side of the throttle body (intake manni) because not only is this a leak during boost but is also a leak during vacuum. AGAIN, DO A BOOST LEAK TEST
