turbo/intercooler aspect ratio

I'm running a GT37 (T4) turbo with a 50 trim on my 420. i got a 12 inch tall intercooler for free just until i could afford a new one...i've heard some of my Subey buddies talking about the aspect ratio from turbo to the intercooler...how it should be 65% and all this other jazz... so i'm wondering if you guys know about this and what size intercooler should i get for my setup?

24x12x3.5" seems to be a pretty popular core size for DSMers. Anything close to that will serve you well.

i think he's asking whats the best size intercooler to use with that turbo and if theres an equation to figure out if its right or not, compared to others.....aspect ratio...

Are you talking about the piping size from the compressor outlet to the intercooler? I know if u decrease the diameter of the turbine housing and increasing the exhaust flow length it helps to reduce turbo lag....but as far as the aspect ratio is it 65% of the the dimensions of the turbine housing?

By "Subey" friends you mean Subaru wrx right? A wrx is a turbo charged sports sedan (extremely redundant) so they probably don't have a clue what they are talking about, this is call BS. BS is a common form of idle chatter made by people that don't have a clue what they are talking about. You are referring to the intercooler efficiency rate. This means there is a loss in pressure as the charge travels through your intercooler and piping. To compensate for this, you want an ideal sized intercooler set-up for the amount of boost you plan to run. Larger intoercoolers create more time for the air (created by motor) to travel through, meaning there is a pressure loss.

That's a brief explination I'm not going into the numbers right now. But how much boost are you running and do you plan to upgrade in the future? THEN I can give you arough idea of what size to look for..

BIGGER is ****NOT*** always better.

haha i agree with the 'WRX redundancy' link16. but ya he asked about the size of my intercooler piping. and he was talking about some equation also. the piping varies but i think it's 2 or 2.5" it's in the shop right now getting some headwork done so i can't measure it right now.

i do have the 24x12x3.5" core size intercooler behind a t3/t4 hybrid with a 50 trim. also i got the intercooler for free from one of my buddies who bought another smaller intercooler, i can't complain. i hope that answers all your questions
