When I checked my turbo for shaft play it didnt budge at all. But when I turn my car on when it hits 2k rpm you can hit it scratching. One of my oil bango bolts has a Very minor oil leak because the line moved a lil when I had the head off so the crush washers arent in the same spot so it leaks a little. But if my turbo is going whats another good sign of it? I was planing on getting an Evo3 but I need this one to last till january. Its a fairly new turbo I think it only has about 30k at most maybe alot less.(big 16g) Also last when I turn the car off the last sound is that scratching sound. The reasonI havnt fixed the leakin bolt was because that is a pain in the ass to get a wrench in there andin order to take the bolt out I need to take my manafold out witch sucks, so yea... Is it shaft play? andyone else have this same problem? any advise, and storys anything?????

YOu already said it wasnt shaft play. Are you sure its the turbo scraping? If there its no play it shouldnt be rubbing the housing. Did you replace the crush washers? Im asking because they arent reusable. I know it sucks, but if you want this thing to last until January, you have to fix that leak, and while the mani is off, replace that one stud with another bolt if you havent already, it makes pulling the manifold a hundred times easier.

Does it still behave right on the road? And why did you have to pull the head?

if the compressor wheel is scraping then it is going to chippped. So take off the intake and have a look to see if thats the problem. You'll be able to tell right away.

The head isnt off, I had to take it off beacuse there was oil leeking from one of my valves. So I took it off it was a seal had that fixed, but I never took the turbo out I only took out the bango bolt that goes into the head and I replaced the crush washers on it but the problem was I pulled it a little back to take the head off and it moved the crush washers that were attached to the turbo a lil which caused the leak. I pulled the intake off and there are scratches on the outside of the compresser housing. So doesnt this meen there is play?? I would like to pull the turbo out, the car isnt going to be drivin till December 30th anyway so I can just pull it out replace the washers and take some pics of it see what you guys think.. Give me a couple weeks beacuse Im really busy but I will make a new thread when I do. Thanks :p

you know this may sound stupid but instead off taking off the head and finding out if theres anything wrong i would do this. since every time ive seen a turbo go theres been metal particles left inside the cylinder. so take one of those magnet wands if you have it and stick it down threw the spark plug hole and move it around a little to see if there is any metal shavings. thats alot easier to me to find out if theres metal pieces in there. unless you dont mind taking off the head.

I wasnt going to take off the head i was only gonna take the turbo out. But I will try thanks.
