Searched but can't find this...

Is there a chart (list) somewhere that shows which turbos are a direct bolt-on replacement for the 1G 14B, along with how they rate for power, spool time, etc.?

I've got a new DP, J-Pipe, FMIC, etc... and want to stick with the stock footprint to avoid more purchases to make it fit.

I currently have a small 16g.. and I am purchasing an Evo III Mani/Evo III O2 housing.

Thanks!

The 16G is the only Bolt in that still uses a J-Pipe that I know of.
There are alot of Bolt on turbos but they wont be using a J-Pipe or anything.
The 50-Trim that I have is a Bolt on turbo.

Usually when you get away from a J-Pipe to a downward facing turbo the only extra that you have to pay is for a coupler and few clamps.

you should look at a sleeper 16g or bastard 20 or whatever they are called. The 20g compressor wheel stuffed in a 16g housing. My buddy has one on his colt and after i took a ride in the car i was ready to buy the turbo off of him!

It wont be a downfiring turbo, and you will be able to bolt it right up like a 14b/16g. Full spool is usually in the high 3k area

Check out slowboy and Forced Performance, two of the vendors that make this turbo.

Yeah I forgot about the Bastard 20G. Its not that popular of a turbo so its not talked about that much. But yeah for the Sleeper look the Bastard 20G Is the best you could get. (that I know of)

Yeah.. I've been leaning towards the Evo III 16g.. seems to make sense with the mani and O2 housing :)

With my mods and the Evo III setup, would I be pushing 400-425 hp, maybe mid 12's with a good tune?

I have the EVO 3 and think it is a great street turbo and very fun for a daily driver. But I think 400+ hp out of it is definitely being overly optimistic. As for trying to predict 1/4 mile times, bench racing is discouraged on the site. Having said that, some guys have taken that turbo into the 11's. But just remember, peak hp figures don't necessarily allow you to predict how fast you might be able to run. There are so many other factors like area under the torque curve, traction, driver skill, weight, etc.... If your main objective is a fast 1/4 mile car then there are turbos better suited to that niche.

Yeah I know Romeen... just trying to get a ball park idea of how the Evo III compares to comparable turbos ($500-$800). I don't know if I should just port (and maybe rebuild.. if needed) my s16G, or just get an Evo III.

I'm not trying to bench race or magically shoot for a particular 1/4 time... just threw those out for comparison's sake.

Thanks mucho guys...

Personally, I'd push the small 16g as far as you can, then go with something bigger, at which point easy bolt-up should not be top concern.

And for your power estimates, those would be great CRANK numbers on an evoIII.

FWIW, I have run an unported, small 16G and a ported EVO 3 16G on my car. The only other thing that changed between the two setups was that I ported the step in the exhaust manifold collector when I installed my E316G. Nothing else was changed in my setup. The s16G did seem to spool a hair quicker but the EVO left no doubt in my mind that it pulls harder through the mid to higher rpm's. I can't say how much, if any, of that was due to the porting.

There was a local guy here that ran 12.12 on the small 16g in a 2g, so that turbo has the potential to get you where you want to be e.t. wise.

Evo 3 is a great turbo but if you ever plan to upgrade id personally go with something larger to begin with. Given, i ran 28psi for over a month (on 93 octane might i add) and the car was fantastic, but the turbo i have now yields the same results at 18psi.
