how long should it take to take out the stock turbo and put a new one back on?

Haha, there's no answer for this question. It all depends.

I would say a week or so, which includes spraying PB Blaster on stuff before hand with heat cycling. Then accounting for stuff that goes wrong or breaks that you don't plan for and have to get new parts for. It could go really smoothly and you don't break a thing, or you could end up breaking a lot of bolts and have a hell of a time.

Exactly, its hard to say. If you wouldnt run into any problems an hour I would say. But thats not likely that you wont have problems. You always have a couple bolts that dont like to come out.

I just took my motor out of my car and it took me and 2 other guys about 9 hours. Mostly because we ran into problems that set us back. I was lucky to and didnt break one bolt and didnt have to heat anything up to get it loose. These cars are old and are usually rusty, which dosent help with taken stuff apart.

Takes me about an hour and a half from running condition to running condition again. Then again it's not my first time. If this is your first time budget in some time due to broken bolts, rounded off nut/bolt heads, unfamiliarity, and the hardware/liquor store runs.

all the bolts on the manifold look about a month old, nice and shiny, along with everything else on the turbo, we believe the kid stripped all his mods off and threw the stock ones back on, but do i need to take the radiator out or what?

Heres my experience. I am not dumb when it comes to cars, just NEW to working on them. I follow instructions very well. I just researched some stuff, and it took me 2 days & nights to swap a turbo. Again, 70% of this time was because of unexpected problems only. (Helicoil <3)

just take your time...and move at a pace you are comfortable with it...and be prepared to swear a bit

mhmm ill find a turbo this week and start taking it apart in the meantime

You really don't need to take the radiator out IMO. You do need to take out the driver's side fan though. I'm putting a 14b in my 2g right now and it's been 15 days. Rained for three of them, took me probably another three to get the stock feed line out (ended up using two vice grips) because it's my DD and I don't really have a way to get to the hardware store, and it's been sitting for the last 4 days or so because after I got it bolted in I realized the j-pipe I got wasn't long enough so I have to get a new one. Also factor in school. If I had to do it all over again though, now that I see how everything goes, it would take me a lot less time.

EDIT: This was on my 2g. Not sure how much room you'll have on the 1g. I had no problem with my manifold bolts but the t-25 was replaced less than half a year ago. PV blaster was a godsend.

+1 You definitely don't need to take the radiator out. The first time I did a "turbo swap" it was the first real mechanical thing I did. I pulled out the big T28 and put in a G50, which means eliminating the coolant lines and running a ss feed and return line. It took me about 2.5 hours. I didn't run into any snags with my swap.

Yes, it could take a weekend, but in my opinion for it to take that long would be if there were a LOT of broken studs, stripped holes, etc. Or if you didn't have the right tools or parts and had to run out to get it.

No Don't take out that radiator, But it may make it easier if you take out the driverside cooling fan. With that fan out of the way it will give you A lot more room to work. Its NOT something you HAVE to remove .... just a suggestion to make the job easier on you.

Get a pair of HEAVY gloves and break the bolts loose while the Mani is HOT...then you can let it cool and finish the job.

Or just use a torch on the Manifold bolts if they won't come out.
