tsi cuts out at boost

ok so my 1990 tsi runs good idles a little high but all in all its smooth, that is until i really get on it, it seams like it falls on its face as soon as it gets over 4psi boost, could a leaky caps in the ecu do this ??

My car did that when I first started to tune it. It was running really rich which caused that. Also could be the plugs or wires. You could take the ecu out and look at it. You can tell if the caps are leaking.

Do a boost leak test. Those solve a lot of problems.

ya i just put in new plugs and wires. It didn't help at all, ill try the boost leak test thanks.

Mine did this same thing a couple years ago, turns out I had a massive tear on the underside of the soft pipe coming from my throttle body to the BOV.

Clogged fuel filters can do this same thing as well.

so i did a turbo leak test and its good. So i swaped out the ecu with the one in my 1991 gsx, it runs really good above 2500rpms but it really idols like crap and it has really bad throttle response, its like the exact opposite,

90 car and 91 ecu don't match you'll have to swap ecu pins on the harness . pins 6 and 14 i believe . check here in the electrical under 1g ecu pin outs. Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page

Could be a few things caps leaking/mas/tps i would start with the mas try to find a 2g mas it solved my problems!

Could be a one of many things. Look at the cheapest solution first and work your way up. But yes, caps could cause this.

Could be a case of blo-by. Use a dvom to check your resistance on the coil.

but like i said when i use my 91 ecu it runs good at top end, and when i use the stock ecu it has no boost it just cuts out and falls on its face, im going to do like every one said and swap out #6 & #14 pins on the ecu plug and see what happens, i think its the ecu, but like i said it works in my 91 gsx

The ECU you posted pictures of is a converted 91+ ECU not a original 90 EPROM ECU.

I believe that's what the red wires on the bottom of the board are for, to swap pins 6 and 14.

You do need to check the car's wiring harness to make sure no one also swapped them there.
