I look to find out if anyone has seen or has done the roof mod like the supra on F&F 1 where the roof above the cab is removeable with the hatch still in tact any help with figureing out how this mod is done or pointing me in a good direction would be great.

Thats not a mod on the supra, its actually a stock targa top. You can search to find more information about targa tops.

Factory option in europe I read. eclipse ct

Years ago I came across a company that did removable hard tops. This was for the s10 but the same concept still applies. Try searching for targa tops and you may come across the hard top that I was mentioning.

3000gts do this mod also. it needs tons of under body bracing to take up for the flex that removing the top allows.

If you cut the roof for the targa before bracing, the floor would probably sag to the ground if you stood in it. 1gs are pretty weak in that aspect.

IIRC, the 1G eclipses that were sold in Europe with Targas either had some underbody bracing, or used AWD Chassis. Also, they were an extremely limited aftermarket modification. DSM/MMMA shipped them to a german company that removed the roof and installed a targa top.

Also, there are 2 different styles of roof. Targa Tops, and T-Tops. Targa Tops are the ones that have a 1 piece removable roof.

T-Tops are the ones with the metal down the middle, and removable glass on either side.

Both are pretty cool imo, and I would kill for a 1g with the Targa.

Has anyone got a pic of theres done yet.? i have a awd but im sure more modification needs done (getting roll bar cage in anyways).:talon:

This is not the best mod if your ever going to be concerned with handling. It will take a significant amount of reinforcement to make it as stiff as stock. I'd hate to work at that to only end up as good as stock.

But if you just want a sweet daily driver, then It would be pretty neat. I imagine it would be costly to do, as you don't want just any hack shop doing it.

I'd assume this would add a lot of weight too due to reinforcement. I doubt having the top off would male much difference in weight either.

I'm sure any Mini truck shop could hack it up for you. They do it on trucks all the time. Granted the car is not sitting on frame rails and would require all that support that everyone else mentioned. I had a targa top done on my 04 tacoma and it cost about $2,300 without paint at a hole in the wall shack. It turned out great.

notice the roll cage in that 2g? that coupled with some SFC's will suffice in the strength dept.
