i was doing some research... and the pulsing part got me all wtf? and confused. anyways here's my question. i found an adapter flange off of ebay where the eclipse exhaust manifold port has a flange\adapter to fit the tdo5hr 16g 9.8t turbo.
i found some sites where they say it's not worth the time. well here's the question will just the flange work? or is the split evo exhaust manifold like made with a split collector where 2 cylinders would be running into one hole and the other 2 the other hole? or is there just one collector and they just split it off at the end? if so wouldn't this flange work just fine? i currently have a big 16g turbo. the only problem is there's alot of play at the compressor. so i need to swap it out. and I got an evo turbo from a friend for swapping out his some parts on his car. and the turbo on it has no play. so i thought buying the flange and o2 housing would be cheaper then to buy another turbo. i would've jumped and bought the flange but wanted to make sure. and i know i would have to redo my charge pipe coz the compressor outlet would be on the opposite side. have plenty of extra ic piping and couplings to work with. any advice would be wonderful.

Here's why this is a shitty idea overall.

  • The Evo VIII and IX turbo spin the wrong direction, so by the design of the turbine housing you'll either have to position the turbo about 18" from the engine block if you want the compressor inlet to be on the passenger's side (great if you're not running a cooling system at all), or you'll have to install the turbo like it came on the Evo with the inlet on the driver's side of the car. Of course the P/S pump will be in the way of any attempt to squeeze a MAS in there.

  • You're bolting a twin-scroll 10cm housing to a single-scroll manifold, meaning you get all of the flow benefit of having a 10cm turbine housing with none of the spool benefit of having a twin-scroll turbine housing. Be ready for a 16G that doesn't reach full boost until 4300.

  • All this work and you'll still have a 16G on your car.

What about the idea of selling this evo turbo, to add to your funds for either fixing yours, or getting one that will directly bolt back up.

i see. didn't think that far. i was thinking last night about buying just the flange chop my flange off and tig weld it ( i own a tig welder ). and have the piping run according to the firing order to get that pulsing effiency. but i also wanted to check the cfm's on it b/c if the cfm's are the same as a 20g then i was thinking why not. but searching and searching only turbo specs without the cfm's. and fyi it's a tdo5hr 16g6-9.8t twin scroll. and when welding the flange i was going to position the flange so it'll face the same direction as the eclipse. because it's airflow there is no direction as long as it enters the turbine housing. so if i make the flange i guess face backwards so the compressor housing will face passenger side it'll be ok. but i guess what i'll have to do is sell this one to add funds to get another turbo. thanks for the reply guys.

I have a Buschur ported and clipped 20g in a mhi housing, and I love it compared to the evo big 16g i use to have.

It's a 16G. Why would you assume that it's airflow would be different from any other 16G on the market, or assume that the airflow would be the same as a 20G?
