I've got a 88-89 block with a welded crankshaft(weld is around the thrust washer), a head off of a who knows what year (possibly 95-96) with no cams, gears, or cam towers. My buddy took it half way apart and lost some of the hardware and other misc. items. So as you can see I didnt start off with the best stuff. I tore it all down and took it to my engine builder, he said it needs a crank and possibly pistons since the rings are pretty gummed up on them.

I've also got another block available from the same friend I got the one above. But it is also half way tore down with parts scattered across the back yard. He is unsure of the year but he thinks its a 95-96. It has crankwalk, no big deal if the block or crankshaft is still in good shape. It has a complete head but he said it has a crack in it but it does not leak or effect anything?

Questions so far are, will a 95-96 crank work in a 98-99 block with no modifications? Are the heads any different from 95-96 to 98-99?

Looks like I just need to find a whole nother complete engine, or at least a good complete cylinder head and a crankshaft. This is turning into more of a hassle than I planned for.

The head missing the cam tower caps is now junk or to be robbed of the springs and valves if needed to fix another head.

A 7 bolt crank is a 7 bolt crank, it matters not if the factory set it in with thrust washers or on a saddle bearing...

Yes the heads will interchange with one another.

Ok so I found a seemingly nice complete motor that has BC 280/280 cams. Am I going to have to do some tuning to get that to run right?

He is including bigger injectors but I figure I just use my stockers with the stock ecu so I wont have to do tuning as of yet, is that going to be a problem with those cams? Im running stock turbo at 17psi

Im not looking for a monster drag car or anything, just a fun daily driver and a weekend racer.

Yes, he is inculding adjustable cam gears. Here is what hes got:
I may buy for $1850 This would be going in my 97 GST Automatic. Just looking for a super fun daily driver and weekend pony killer. A friend of mine has talked me into getting a safc.

Sounds alright. But was any machine work done? Just skeptical because he still has a cometic headgasket on instead of a steel one. If no machine work was done on the cylinders, the rings will never seat.

You mean just honing? Or boring? I would imagine, but I will ask. He said his brother's friend worked at a machine shop and checked everything out but he didnt give details.

He said it was plastigauged and checked to be in spec by the machine shop and they honed/crosshatched the cylinder walls.
