I just wanna know, can the DRL Modual be installed to a non Canadian model? I've made my own DRL's before... but not the real thing, just a stupid relay system that turns on whever the hell I want. But I want the real setup, the one that the High Beams turn on only during the daytime. Is it possible?

i am curious about this as well. id want use my fogs as DRL's and still have them on at night with the headlights as well.

Thats completely different from what I'm asking, and quite easy to setup. If you do the fog light mod I laid out in the tech articles, but a little different, you can have the fog light switch on the second you drop the e brake, the second you turn the key on, a various different kind of ways to do it. I just want real Daytime running Lights, which power on the high beams only during the daytime.

I used to make the DLR units for Ford and GM. The units are mostly interchangeable, any fitment or wiring issue could be easily dispatched by a DSMer. I would study the location, and connections involved in the Canadian models and then go gank one (or you could order one, but that's dull).

By the wording of your post, you might already have one?

CB, No. But I have made a relay setup on my Accord and my 2G Eclipse for DRL's. Kinda... The Eclipse setup ran off of the 30 second timer for the power windows... It put a ground to the high beam wire so the high beam would turn on without the rest of the lights...

Kinda the same with the Accord except more difficult, I had to make a harness with relays to plug into ignition, headlights, and ebrake... and isolators. It was hard and wasn't worth it... should have used more sturdy items.

I just don't know if the harness is already there and its a plug in unit, or I need a different fender harness to go to the DRL unit... or how much the stock unit would actually set me back fully installed by me.

I dunno... I am trying to aim for that stock look and functionality... Like when I start the car and drop the e brake, the high beam lights up... the second I turn the parking lights on the high beams turn off...

I think it looks cool. Everytime I get in my car I turn my lights on... And I think those GTR Trans Am Class cars look hot with their bright ass amber high beams... like mine!

I was under the impression that true Daytime Running Light's power the high beams at a lower power?

The usual scheme is to run the current backward through both high filaments in series so that each is running at half-wattage. It works okay, other than on the early Saturns that used the driving lights and blinded the crap out of everyone.

Yes. That is how it works. I have Amber High Beams, and even at a low wattage they look killer in the daytime.

also, having daytime running lights gives you a discount on your insurance.

Anyone else have any input on this. On the digital service manual, all I can find is the two DRL relay locations under the dash for canadian models, but nothing claiming to be a drl "control unit" or anything of the sort.

I want my high beams to be on when the car is running only, ebrake is down, and no other lights are selected. And if I turn the parking lights on, the high beams turn off but aren't severed from power so when I turn on the headlights, I can select highs just like normal.

I had my DRL module go bad on me last winter and I had to remove it.. now I can't use my highbeams at all.. It was located in front of the drivers side tire, behind the splash guard.. a small square box with a 10mm bolt holding it to the frame and an electrical connector... maybe the US models have a different unit in this area and you can swap it for a canadian one?.. I also know you can buy the canadian unit from chrysler for about $450 can (ripoff). The haynes manual has the DRL/highbeam circuit diagrams for both canadian and us models.

ps does anyone know where I can get the canadian DRL module for my car used or cheap? I've been looking forever.

edit: crap I realized my car is a 2g and yours is a 1g, maybe the unit isn't in the same location

Spoolin, your a double filament bulb. On 1gb and 2g's, we have a completely separate high beam. Most DRL systems illuminate the High beam at around half the voltage.

Did you ever get this setup on your car Josh?
