Sunday was my first trip to the track and i ran a 14.75 at 98mph. I had a 2.422 60' time. I thought with a 98mph trap i would run faster than a 14.75. Any opinions

I trapped 97mph and ran a 15.02 in my Laser, with a 2.5 60ft time. So doesn't seem like you are far off.

Yup, fix your 60' ;) .

Lot's of things can be involved. We need a little more info like are you No Lift shifting? What tires are you running (pressure etc also)? Are you spinning on shifts? What turbo are you using? Where does it spool?

Traps give you an idea about where you'll be. With that trap, yes you could be in the 13's.

Take a wander through our 1/4 times (under bragging rights at the top header of the page) and that will give you an idea of the variances. Plus look at the 60' times also.

You NEED to improve that 60ft. Even with street tires and an open diff you should be able to pull a 2.1 60ft. For every .1 you shave off the 60ft you are looking at .2 off your e.t. which means with a 2.1 60ft you are looking at a low 14 no problem.

I need to work on my launch technique. I am running 225/55r Pirelli's. Yes i lift shifting b/c its my daily driver, first gear = no traction. Second usually hooks up. I was wondering because a Srt-4 was running 13.8 trapping 100mph so..

First off, I have gone to the track with many first timers. I kinda like it because of the anxiety, excitement, nervousness and (after the first run) look of pure pleasure in their faces :D . I tell them all that first day times means pretty much nothing. You are just getting used to the parameters of the track. There is so much happenning that you need to be aware of that it is very hard to consciously be aware of these things.
After a couple of runs you can start to work on things. I would say launch is certainly one of them.

If you read through the sticky on top of this page:

I think this will help you get a starting point for your launch and shift points.

Launches are specific to each car but these generalities will get you started.

As for your tires. You got 55's so you have some sidewall to work with. Start out with a about 15 psi in them and see where that takes you. You are trying to find the best psi for your set-up. What you want is the tires to grab (not spin) but not be low enough to bog the car. By lowering the pressure it helps to transfer some of the "shock" of launching into the sidewall. I actually ran 10psi in my drag radials at the track that I normally went to, with the set-up that I have, and the launch that I was using (you can see how all these things tie in). You also have to be aware that as you drop tire pressure you add resistance in your top end.

Shift points are also specific to your set-up. Generally, what you are trying to do is shift so that you are making as much use of your peak power and that you fall into your power range after the shift. I generally try to go just past my peak hp so that fall back into my power range on the next gear.

Don't forget that there is an adjustment necessary for that right foot of your's ;) . You can't just mash and go.

There is so much more to running than this but this will at least get you started. As you get more comfortable (i.e. seat time) things will move "slower" and become easier to work on.

Oh yeah, the SRT's are now my arch enemy  ( I name new arch enemies as my times go down. It allows me to have sub-goals. The SRT stage 3's I run against usually run high 13's and low 14's).

Good luck on Friday. More seat time never hurts,

I used to turn 14.0-14.5 at 100-104 so that's about right.

Neon's tend to turn quicker et's due to their weight and lsd. They flat get out of the hole better than our cars do without an lsd in ours. There's alot of e.t. in that first 60' that they're gaining but not alot of mph. If you lined up an awd car trapping 100mph, a fwd dsm trapping 100mph, and an srt 4 trapping 100mph the neon would always be right in the middle assuming the fwd dsm doesn't have some sort of aftermarket suspension/slicks/lsd installed.

You should see some of the other CSM (yes, csm) guys with the 4g63t swapped into them, running high 13's trapping 130's. No traction for life. LOL

Ahhh crappy times we are looking at I see? Here are my times for last Saturday, talk about asstastic or craptacular!

First run I got wheel hop, Second run was more wheel hop and third run was roasting 1st and 2nd with cheaters on all 4 wheels, then unable to get it into 3rd gear. lets just say.. I need more practice with cheater slicks because I am a noob to them.

Thats weird the car in your sig says your AWD you should be pulling at minimun 2.060ft.You guys are lucky in cali and those warm states your racing in december.OMG

On street tires I can cut a 1.88 60' and my best on cheaters is a 1.77 60' I just could not get a good launch for the life of me last weekend.

CSM's for the win. My car spins the tires hard in fourth and a good bit in fifth. A 2.0l and SCM6176 are good for that. I have a KAAZ though. Oh and a set of 24.5x8x15 mickey thompsons. But street tires suck. I trap near the 130 mark with poor et's. Still getting to know the car.
