hey i was wondering how hard it would be to swap a auto to manual. i found a nice tsi but it is auto and i want it manual. i was wonering what parts i would need like new ecu and such and tools?

Well let me let you in on this. I have done it twice and I will never do it again There are so many things that you have to change well maybe not that many but it takes forever and if you are thinking about doing it to an awd you are even crazier. You have to change most of the wiring, you should change the ecu and the turbo as well as the injestors, switching the shifters is a real pain, and lets not ever get started on the clutch assembly (that's about a 2 day project in itself) and you also have to cut hole for the master cylinder and the shifter cables. Also, you would have to switch the rear ends and you couldn't use the transfer case that came with the auto either b/c they are different as well. My advice to you would be to just find a 5 sp. It would be so much easier and probably alot cheaper unless you have all the parts to do it. Good Luck.

I'm not very mechanically inclined so I asked the guy who owns the shop I frequent for a quote, and he gave me around 700 inclusive of parts, which aint too bad really, if I weren't a college student...
