Here is the deal. I have no idea where to go. I have money to fix but have no idea what to do.

A year ago I bought a 93 (body) talon tsi awd. Big surprise...the trans went out. he told me he swaped the motor but didn't say if it was for a 92 or 91 motor. I have heard of all the splines and stuff and I dunno what all that is but I need to get this running. so What do I need to do/check before purchasing a transmission so that I know that the one I get will go in and fit snug???

Well I need to ask, how did the trans just go out? If its completely out then it sounds more like a clutch issue. How about you tell us how it went out, or was it already out when you put the car back as a whole.

No it lasted awhile. When i got it it grinded in 3rd and when shifting down to 1st. Then one by one all the gears went out until now where it wont engage into any of them and when it does it throws it out. he told me he put an aftermarket clutch in it. Given the situation and knowing him it was probably an act 1600. he said he also add some kind of lever or something to push the clutch further out but it didn't work much....according to him.

Yea it sounds like the extended rod for the slave cylinder didn't work very well. Ok, since your trans does sound like its all grinded up. Take the transfer case off and count the splines on the output shaft coming out of the transmission. It will either be 21,22,or 23 splines. Then when you go get one, you'll know which one will work.

so is the clutch ok?? is this going to happen again?

Do you know where I can get a trans?(I'd prefer a broken one to send to jacks but Surprisingly cant find one(mine has crack in bellhousing so i cant send it))

What about the splines coming for the clutch isn't that important?

thank you for your help

Your welcome. All of the clutches from 1g-2g's 4g63 all have the same clutch spline. But I would recommend getting another clutch while you have the trans out. Definitely if you have no need for something like a ACT clutch. And make sure everything that works the clutch is in proper working order. Such as the master cylinder, slave cylinder, air out of the lines, etc.
