Sounds like you got a bad car. A new tranny is around 2k or so and that is not including installing it. Keeping the car is your call. If you have time and money to put into it in the near future, it CAN be a good car. Used tranny is iffy. If you go to a junkyard and pull one yourself like at a pull-a-part, you may get lucky like I did with my talon. If the motor is in good shape, it may be worth fixing but, again, that is up to you.

Auto transmissions are very complex and usually are not rebuilt. Good luck with the car.

If your going to go as fas as rebuilding the trans you might want to think about pulling the motor and trans and doing a complete swap. Its going to take alittle more time but well worth it. If the body and interior are in good shape and the car is salvageable thats what i would do. There are plenty of people on here with trans and motors for sell. And alot of smarts to help you through it. In the long run its going to cost about what a good project gst or gsx would cost but you would gain a ton of experience and the "awww" feeling of doing it yourself.
