So I had to tear the top and center casing off of the transaxle because when I was pulling out the old half-shaft seals, the tip of my tool broke off and flew inside...
So I pulled the casings off, found the tip of the tool, re-sealed it with new RTV and now I'm running into a problem that I didn't notice before removing everyhting...So I'm not sure if it's suppose to be like this...

With the center case back on, and with no 5th gear assembly on, my 5th/reverse gates are shady. During re-assembly I kept the transaxle locked in the 5th gear position...Now when I shift it into the neutral position, all other gates engage fine, except for 5th/reverse. I have to push the top of the shift rail downwards and play with the shift levers for it to move the rail up or down.
Will this fix itself when I re-assemble the top half of the transaxle and get the top cover back on? Or am I missing something here....I followed the instructions in the manual I have, everything went fairly smooth except for this...And like I said I'm not sure if it does this because of the top not being completely assembled?

Thanks for any help...

Steve

Did you remove the restrictor ball? Its kindof hard to tell what exactly you are describing but when I reassembled my tranny I had trouble shifting the gears...I could watch two fork rails move at the same time and found that I forgot to reinstall the 5th/rev reistrictor ball. It kindof looks like the reverse light switch.

Sorry I didn't get around to replying but I eventually ended up figuring it out on my own...Anyway, I got the center case back on and got new synchro rings for the 5th gear assembly so it's all back together. The only concern I have is my input shaft. When I grab the input shaft from the bellhousing side, there is the very slightest bit of play. I don't have a gauge to check the end-play, but the end-play specs are pretty precise (0 - 0.05 mm). This transmission has never had any shifting problems or weird noises. Was just kind of concerned. The play that is there is so little I really have to pay close attention when pulling/pushing the shaft...Was just wondering if I should be expecting any tranny problems in the future...
