Is it possible to convert a 91 automatic GSX to 5 speed manual with a trans from a N/T 92 GS, and still retain the AWD capabilities of the GSX? From what I have read, the 5 speed trans in the GS is basically the same as the one in the AWD GSX, just with a different drive shaft and transfer case. If I were to get a transfer case and a new AWD drive shaft, could I do this?

no, the gs trans does not have a spot to hook up an transfer case. and it has different gears in it.

Bah, that sucks.... I was hoping to do things the cheap way....

Theoretically though, I could convert to FWD on the gsx with my gs trans, correct?

theoreticly yea you could. but the gears are different and the gs tranny's arent built to take the turbocharged abuse. and why would you want a fwd when you have the abilty to be awd? you should be able to find an awd tranny for a reasonable price and do things right the first time. but also remamber that you'll have to swap the rear end out as the auto and manual rear ends are different and they will bind up and not perfom the way they should if mixed and matched. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

So basically, to do the swap A/T to M/T I would need the GSX trans, the transfer case, drive shaft, and the rear diff?

I do want the AWD, what with all the snow and crap we get around here...already put the GS in a ditch cause i lost traction...plus I believe I get cheaper insurance rates, since they classify it as an added safety feature... All this on top of the fact that I don't like the auto trans in our cars, seeing as every one I have run into has always been crap...Too easy to blow up....

and pedals, shift linkage, master and slave cylinders, ecu, and all the other little nuts bolts and hoses, and i think the gas tank is different also. So basicaly its not really woth it to do the swap you are looking to do. you can sell your car and buy a stock 5spd awd for less money you are going to put into your car converting it.

Thats just my opinion though. if you really want to go for it. Let us know what you decide to do.

You want AWD? Better off just buying a AWD car. The cost to have someone else do the work for you is approx $7,000 for parts and labor.

Doing things the cheap way is the wrong way. Quality is not cheap and I dont know about you, but I demand quality because its what lasts.
