So I can shift fine. Clutch....works. Yet no matter what gear I try. Only 1 and r. The car slightly moves then its like I slammed the clutch plate down and it moves in the opposite direction of the gear. I was able to force the car to move hoping the differential or something weird happened when I went home last night and it worked. I floored it in reverse and then in first. Then I took it nice and easy and retried reverse and 1. It was fine. Tried reparking it and trans locked up again. Someone said it could be in two gears which might be the problem, or my differential is destroyed. No clue. Can't move car in neutral. I can start it and let off the clutch. Only when I try movement I get shudders and sputters. Gave the bi*** a full tank. Washed her. Now she's bitching like a baby......had a horrible day after finding this out. Not happy. Help

Oh and if I get a new transmission with any manual transmission from our cars work? I'd like to have a simple put in and no modification.

Drain the fluid and see what comes out. Are you saying you cannot shift at all or if you do it simply doesn't do anything. If your profile is correct you have a 90 FWD. No you cannot choose any year. 90 has a specific shifter. Yes you can do a different year but you would have to change the shifter and the mount on the tranny and possibly the cables. It's been years since I did it. 93 up axles are also larger spline but the tranny externally is the same. When you changed your clutch did you check the input shaft for play? If there was a lot of play (and I've seen few that weren't) there are issues inside the tranny. It's probably too late now. The car is 24 years old. Wanna play, gotta pay. I have rebuilt my own personal transmissions several times over the last 20 years and I have a spare rebuild sitting on the shelf. No they aren't that fragile in my opinion but if you're going to raise horsepower and then continue to beat on them they do wear and sometimes break. I typically don't see a catastrophic failure such as yours unless a. its a high power car or b. there were symptoms beforehand. At least drain the fluid and see what comes out and report back. If it's silvery like silver paint you likely broke a shift fork and then ground up the pieces. Gold flakes is synchro wear, pretty normal, silver flakes pieces of anything in the gearset or bearings and if it's oatmeal....well self explanatory. You probably did it no favors by trying to drive and forcing stuff. Any particular reason you did that? Like it would magically fix itself?

Forcing it did fix it! Seriously....but only for a minute...and I usually do have good luck with all my cars when I force things. But it highly depends on the situation. In this one. If it was in a second gear other than my choice. Breaking it may have gotten rid of that gear completely. Which would be horrible. But car would have a 57% of being able to drive. Anyway Il drain it when I wake up. And why are you mentioning a spare rebuild? •_•[DOUBLEPOST=1411825376][/DOUBLEPOST]And it also let me know if it was the differential. Which its not.[DOUBLEPOST=1411825447][/DOUBLEPOST]And lastly I had a country transmission shop look over mine. He only said syncros were bad. But he couldn't find any.

Forcing it isnt ever a good idea a 50 whatever percent driveable is 100 percent unsafe. What you did fixed nothing. You temporarily alleviated a symptom. Sorry but that is sloppy and given that I and others share the road with you it's irresponsible.
Youre likely going to remove trans now and incur whstever expense it is to fix or replace it.

I don't share my driveway with you? Not sure what you meant by that. I have money. If its broken. Do what ever is possible and my have a slight chance of fixing it so I can go to work. It was already broken and causing more damage, or possibly fixing was a rush I choose to take. Stupid yes, but depending on the circumstances and that this is the first time I've ever had a transmission lock up and I didn't even know that they could. I did what I do so stop pointlessly lecturing me after I have made a unchangable choice and have learned from it. I posted to see if anyone specifically knew the problem and how much it would be. Obviously I already know there's a high chance I'll be rounding that initial number up due yo that choice. I'm not dumb. I'm not unsafe. I live and learn the way I wish to.

If you only drove in your driveway thats one thing. I share the road with you is a metaphor and im lecturing you because I have seen this stuff 1000 times over in the last 25 years but people keep making the same mistakes.

Thank you for lecturing, but next time try not to seem too rude and maybe the next person won't feel insulted or angry. Had a shitty night dude. Shitty night. Wasted 80 miles of gas. For a stupid ****.

Its hard to express any emotion in type. Ive been where you are both when I didnt know anything and when I did. You have the benefit of 25 years of experience on the Internet and nearly instant info. Take your timeand liston to the advise of seasoned veterans and take all info with a grain of salt. Many people advice are based on assumptions, some reasonable, some not. I prefer objective discussion when I am fed facts. Helps people on the board help you. Youre doing ok so far but further diagnosis is likely going to require some work. Your choice depending on your skill level, time, money and tools.

Inspect throw out bearing through the hole.

WTF!! what hole? The breather vent hole?[DOUBLEPOST=1411860387][/DOUBLEPOST]

I could do it myself. If I had gear pullers and what nots. But I don't have any transmission tools.[DOUBLEPOST=1411864060][/DOUBLEPOST]

Um....is that normal?

Is that all the oil that came out of it? It looks to have some metal in it also.

Really? It looks normal to me.....doesn't help that I don't remember what it looked like going in, but if you say metal. I believe you.

IF the oil is sparkly, there is metal in it and something inside of your transmission has failed.

If that is all that came out than it seems that you didn't put near enough in there. Looks like maybe a quart, maybe a quart and a half of oil there.

Isn't that how your supposed to do it?[DOUBLEPOST=1411865647][/DOUBLEPOST]I poured in a bottle and a half of carquest sad 80w-90. So yeah. A quart and a half. That's how much I put in it.

You were right around a quart to low. That is why you locked it up.

It didn't have any fluid in it when I took it out for it to be looked over by a shop. It was also not even mounted to the body of the car.

Are you saying that it didn't have fluid in it while it was in the car and driven, or that it didn't have fluid in it when you go the transmission that wasn't installed in the car? Regardless, a transmission that is very low on oil, or has none at all will have damaged internals and eventually lock up.

For the 3 months I owned the car it never. Had. Trans fluid. Nor was it mounted to the body of the car. And I these details out during the removal of the transmission
