I have been doing research, and nothing I can find exactly answers my question. I bought a transmission off a member on this site, and now that my car is coming together, I was doing a little research. Came across the VIN decoding thread, and after looking at the VIN, my transmission is a 90. I was told it was out of a 92. This is the number:

Correct me if im wrong.
I have a 92 shifter, with the matching cables.

Here is what I don't understand. After seeing this thread: Shifter cable and bracket difference between VR4 and DSM | Galant VR-4 > Technical Discussions | GalantVR-4.org Mitsubishi Galant VR4 Forum

I understand what the 90 brackets look like now. My friend has a 1g also, so i looked at his trans and mounts. According to the VIN decoding his trans is a 90 as well. But, he has the 91-up cable brackets and what looks to be the 90 shift arms. These are the 3 brackets i have:

To my understanding, the far left one is the 90 cable bracket, upper portion. Now the other 2 are basically the same, except one is taller than the other? What brackets are those for? I know one is 91-up, just don't know if one is for something different..

And if i'm not mistaken in the below picture the shorter arm that I am holding is the 91-up arm correct?

I love learning more about DSM's, and want my car to shift right. So if i buy 91-upshift arms and figure what bracket to use, will i be ok?

I think you are missing a picture. ;)

I don't know if you've seen this thread or not, but just in case: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drivetrain-tech/93739-90-shift-linkage-vs-91-94-shift-linkage.html.

As far as part numbers go, there were actually 3 different cable brackets on 1G cars. There was a 1990 bracket, a 1991 (up to middle of March build dates) bracket, and a late 1991 (after middle of March build dates) through 1994 bracket. I personally don't know the difference between them all (though I agree that the one on the left is the 1990 bracket); maybe that link will help you figure something out.
