Ok so I have had my 95 eclipse gst for about 4 months now. I absolutely love this car and I want to rebuild it, but i need to learn more about it. First of all right now i am having an issue with the transmission. After i had changed the fluid in it and put a new filter in it (advanced auto parts didnt give me the filter with the shorter bolts) I ended up breaking one of the bolts inside of where the filter bolts go. Now after I put everything back together and tried to drive the car, and keep in mind it had been running fine before this, it woiuld shift into drive and reverse hard, it would slip out of gears, and it wont shift into fourth gear at all.

Now i have changed the filter almost 3 times since then and i have gotten new bolts in but I have not gotten the broken one out so the filter is only being held up by 3. Now I almost think that this broken bolt has something to do with my transmission problems. I have put amsoil tranny fluid in every time i have changed the filter so its always had fresh new oil. I also threw some Lucas in there to see if anything would happen, but it only helped the slipping. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!

Thanks!

Sounds like your filter isn't sealed up to the valve body properly with that broken bolt. It could also be that the fluid that you are using doesn't have a friction modifier in it.

I use only the atf +4 in them. You can get it at oreilly for like 4 bucks a quart. I would contact amsoil and see if their atf has a friction modifier in it. If not than you can add some lubeguard black in it.

Well Would Royal Purple Tranny fluid work. because i have been thinking about going to it for a while, due to the fact everyone saying it is amazing.

I would just talk to amsoil before trying something different. Also i would get a filter and gasket from the dealership and extract that broken bolt.

ok so i did some research and the amsoil i use has friction modifier in it so i guess it comes down to just that bolt again.
