My transmission is messing up in neutral it wants to die, in 1st gear it will not go, I will press on the gas and let off the clutch and it will just rev up. Does anybody have any suggestions????? :banghead:

1) if its in neutral and you let off the clutch does it stall like the ebrake is on and you are trying to move from a stop in first?

2) are you sure your getting into first gear?

3) what happens when you try and move from a stop in 2nd or 3rd?

if number one is true i would drain the fluid and check for metal..

When it is in neutral it is stalling out as if it is in a gear, I thought i fixed it by messing with the shifter It would go into first i was able to start it off, then second just fine but it wouldnt engage 3rd. I drove it in my neighborhood and it died, did the same thing. What i did that i thought fixed it was screw with the shifter levers on the trans, I put the select lever in 4 and the shifter lever in neutral as my manual told me to do. LIke I said worked fine for a block then same problem. Oh it also smelt burnt and it was smoking......Made for a fun time in the rain

And yes according to the levers on the trans it should be in first
and it does the same thing from 2nd or 3rd that it does in 1st it just revs
I was told by my girlfriends dad that there could be something locked up in the trans?? What about the syncronizer??

i feel the same way and an easy way to tell if the transmission is shot/done is drain the fluid. Also that burning smell could easily be your clutch slipping from your transmission being shot.

Yeah, just pop off the drain plug and see what comes out. If there are no metal shavings... time to drop the trans and check your clutch. Could be amultitude of things, honestly.. such as a dragging clutch.

+1

Burning smell + smoke.. And reving through gears? Sounds like a clutch issue

Did you pull that drain screw on the trans and look at the oil to be sure?

First check your adjustment carefully !!!!!!!!!!! Can make a world of diffence.

What doesn't make sense to me, is it's stalling when in neutral...

Does it do with the the Clutch both pressed and released?

Are you 100% sure it's in neutral? Pop the shifter cables off of the transmission shifter arms and manualy put it in neutral. Then hop in the car and start it. You can either disconnect the Clutch Safety switch so you can start it without pressing the clutch..or you can just start it normally.

Let us know if it bogs down with the clutch both in and out.

Okay srry Ive been busy as hell, First No it only stalls in neutral when the clutch is out if the clutch is in then it is in neutral, I know this cause I had to tow the car in the rain after it did this. Second I havent had a chance to drain the oil I will do it tom and let yall know. Third I was also told it sounds like a spring is shot??? Not to sure what spring they were telling me about. But it sounds like the only thing to do is take it in and drop the trans. I will let yall know what they say.

Oh ya yes iv made sure that the cables are adjusted correctly but its not that because it does it even when the cables are disconnected ill put the trans in neutral by the levers on the trans and it will still stall out.

for future reference just to make things a little more definite, lets call the clutch disengaged when your foot is on the pedal and engaged when your foot is not on the pedal.
